    Default Guitar One Disses Eddie???

Man right before his birthday too. Link below but just in case here is a snippet. I don't know the context but this is pretty fuckin lame:

The challenge: "Top 10 Guitarists Who Desperately Need to Retire."

    The challenger: Guitar One magazine.

    The winner: Eddie Van Halen.

The reason: "It's been 20 years since Eddie's done anything worthwhile on guitar," according to Guitar One. "Anyone that ineffective at any other job would have been fired 19 years and 10 months ago."

    http://www.journalnow.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=WSJ%2FMGArticle%2FWSJ_RelishArt icle&c=MGArticle&cid=1128769397688&path=!entertain ment!general!&s=1037645508970

I mean fuck, neither has Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton or Jeff Beck...does that make them any less relevant? a big FUCK YOU to Guitar One on behalf of Eddie. Pisses me off.

Stupid, why should anyone ever stop playing? Who gives a fucking how relevant you are? Any half-assed musician would give their left nut to have the career Ed has had, and the success.

I don't get these dumb magazines. What do they gain by tearing down players they kissed ass to for 25 years? Bunch of phonies.

    Wait for it...................wait for it.............................LAME!!!!!

What's the deal with relevant anyways?? Are they saying that someone with Edward's music talent and legacy isn't relevant???

    That's just crazy talk.
What exactly is relevant to them? Green Day? Cold Play?

    jd5150,

You are right - it fucking sucks and Ed needs to show the world what he can do, but I must make one correction in your comments:

Jeff Beck's last few instrumental albums in the last 5 years (Who Else?, Beck, etc.) have been considered by critics as some of Jeff Beck's best work ever.

Even Page with Coverdale/Page (1993) - critics called it the best he has ever played since Led Zeppelin.

Like it or not, they're right. Ed hasn't done anything worthwhile since 84. (except the "amazing songs" he did in 2002 that he hasn't released. Either say your done or do something. One of the two please.

Eh, I disagree to a bit cos even with Hungar he had some cool riffage on certain things. However, the musical direction he took on guitar became more "safe" if you will.

Maybe what they're referring to 'tis the fact that Edward hasn't really released anything since VHIII and those last three BOBW songs were absolutely fucking horrid?

Are you the editor of GuitarOne? So music is his life, you want him to stop?
Did he ask to be a hero...no. He is doing what he loves, and we happen to dig it.

Does he have to re-invent himself once a decade to continue his legacy???
I mean how dare he get a divorce, battle cancer, alcoholism, have his mother pass away, raise a kid... and God forbid not play music for a period of time while he gets his shit together...if he never plays another note he is part of our important musical history. Why denounce someone like that? What is the point?

And damn that Hendrix is overrated too, He hasn't done anything new for 35 odd years, he just sucks ;-) He's dead? Oh well fuck it take him off the guitar hero list he will never know...

Oh and that past his prime Les Paul, I mean ALL he did was invent the Multitrack and the Electric Solidbody... and the dude shreds...but damn he's old I mean hang it up. He still plays the clubs and he's gotta be around 90.

Should Paul McCartney hang it up? I mean shit his band is pretty much all dead, what does he have to offer... I think we should just take all the gold and platinum records down, it's embarrassing.

Assenine comments. Ending music for these guys is like saying go commit suicide...These people aren't out to please the public. If we like it great...obviously there are some that don't, they have that right. But don't tell them to stop playing.

I have this feeling GuitarOne will be fielding many complaints in a shitstorm for that one.

Has'nt done anything since 1984??!!? I know some people don't like the Hagar years, but saying his guitar playing was not relevant? I love both era's accordingly with no bias towards Roth or Hagar. Ed's playing as far as I can see has been outstanding up until the 2004 tour. Even then it was decent, just not up to standard of the past. These magazines should give him a break! What a way to kick someone when they're down. I'll bet most people won't be able to name one guitar player from any one of the bands today 20 years from now. Rock on Ed.

Oh, come on now.... just trollin' along, ehhh?!?!?

We get it, you hate the Hagar era... but even some of the hardest Dave or the gravers get the fact that Eddie's musical relevance surpassed 1984.

Yeah, that's a load of crap. The songs like 5150, Summer Nights, AFU, Poundcake, Don't Tell Me, Humans Being, and many others far outweigh and outnumber the When It's Love, Dreams, and Can't Stop Loving Yous of that era. Hell, even a cheesy song like Dreams has two great guitar solos in it.

It's just a bs way of getting people to notice the magazine.
