    Default VEGAS VACATION

Sooo, it seems that the company is going to send all the reps on a little " Fear And Loathing" trip to Vegas the second week in June. I've never been, so, tell me my fellow Linkers, what do i need to see and do?

Oh goodness where do I start!

    1. take good walking shoes!
2.Be ready to dress up or down in a matter of minutes.
    3.Cash Cash cash!
4.I really dont know what you like and dont like but my advise to you is go see a show or concert. Because if the show is good then afterwards you can party all night long. Its summer and there will be alot of events going on that time of year so take advantage! (summer tours!)

Oh yeah and if your a fan of music which I know you are then the Hard Rock Casino is a must!!

Be ready to party and be amazed!

If you want to see a show better get tickets now, don't expect to show up and just purchase tickets. A lot of the big name shows sell out quick.

Yes, bring comfortable shoes. If you are at the NY NY and you want to go to the Bellagio, because of the size of the Bellagio sign it only looks like a few hundred yard walk. Its actually about a mile. Take the tram or get a cab if you don't want to walk.

Cabs only pick you up at the entrance to a resort/casino don't expect to flag one down along the side of the street. Its against the law for a cab to stop in the road to pick you up. Most cab fairs will run you about $10, expect to pay around $25 from one of the strip to the other.

DO NOT JAY WALK!!!! You will be run over!! At a intersection wait for the light to tell you its OK to cross. I am not kidding. Taxi drivers will run your ass over. Cops will write you a ticket.

If you are looking for one of the cheap steak and lobster dinners or all you can eat buffets, you will need to go to the North Strip (older strip). The new resort/casino's don't offer these, they don't need to. But the older hotels north of the Bellagio and Paris etc etc do have some great dinner deals.

Prostitution is not legal is Vegas. (No I have not been arrested for this.)

The dudes handing out porno pamflets on the strip, ignore these guys. The crap they are handing out is junk. If you want to go to a strip club I suggest the Olympic Gardens. Dont let a cab driver sell you on a specific club, a lot of cab drivers get money from clubs to bring patrons. They will also take the long way to a club to raise the fair.

If you wish to drink for free, you better be gambling. If you wish to see the cocktail waitress again you better tip her. Dont expect her to keep checking on you if you dont tip.

Dont expect comps in any of the new casino's unless you are gambling a shit load of money, like hundreds of thousands. The older casinos are your best bet for comps, still you need to be gambling a lot of Cashola.

The dam is a 2 hour drive away, if you have the time its worth it.

Red Rocks is about an hour plus away, worth it as well.

If you rent a car, use the valet parking. Its free except for the tip.

Cash machines are expensive to use $3 to 5 per transaction, and usually only allow you to take a minimum of $100 out. Get cash dont keep using atm's.

You cant pay for anything with a chip. You can tip the cocktail waitress and the dealer with them though.

WATCH YOUR CHIPS!!! If you have a lot of chips in small denominations change them in for larger ones. Its easier to watch them and keep track of what you have. WATCH YOUR CHIPS!! People will steal them!!!
Dont hand money to a dealer, they wont take it. You have to set it on the table, then they pick it up. The reason is so the cammera's can see the transaction take place.

Cammera's everywere!! Your every move is being watched!!! NO JOKE!

Las Vegas Rules!! Have a great time!!

    Vegas, baby. Vegas.

    All good tips so far.

I went to UNLV for a year in the early 90's. Man, Vegas has changed since then.

Do you know where you are staying? The pools are awesome. Swim up bar at the hard rock. If you are younger...the crowd at PALMS is incredible, though the casino is off the strip. Best looking cocktail waitresses are at the RIO. Stay away from Casesars...I repeat don't go there. I always lose there!

If you don't care about your money, all the "carnival" table games are fun, but weighed heavily for odds for the "house". I'm talking about games like Let it Ride, Carribean Stud, Casino War. If you want to play a fun game that is a slooow bleed on your money...learn how to play PAI GOW. It's really a slow bleed and you can use that time to work on a nice buzz.

I really like the Mirage still. It's where I always stay. Nice and centrally located. O yea one more thing...if you're going with a group...most of the pools rent "Cabanas"...this is well worth the hundred bucks a couple for the day...The ones at the mirage have ceiling fans, tv, stereo, tables, fresh fruit, chips, and nuts...a waitress ready to cater to your needs...we really enjoyed ourselves...so we did it a second day!

I go 5 or 6 times a year. I'm ready to pass my wisdom onto you...

This might seem obvious, but first timers are alway's surprised. If you want have a drink and you feel like going somewhere else, go. You CAN take it with you anywhere, casino to casino, outside, anywhere. If you smoke, don't be afraid to light up...anywhere. Casino's, restaraunts, malls, you name it.

    Now to the goods.

    USEFUL TIPS:

$10.00 will get you a day pass on the tram behind the casino's. Its stops every quarter mile, so at about every other casino. Much cheaper than cab fare and it's the best way to get from one end of the strip to the other.

Spend the day's sleeping, at the pool and seeing the sights. Do your gambling at night. The last thing you want to do is blow all your money during the day, especially the first day, and have no cash to live the nightlife. Vegas dosen't even start up until 10pm.

If you want a free drink, play the tables. Slots will give you free drinks too but it will take forever. if you're playing tables and ask for a drink it's on it's way, toot-sweet. And they'll just keep coming back. If you're walking around and you want a beer to drink while walking around, stop at the malls inside the casinos and go to the convienience store, not the small 7 eleven type shops. You can get yourself a tall boy for like $2.00.

If you're looking for a lot of good looking women and to hang with a lot of cool people, go to the newer side of the strip. Mandalay Bay, New York New York, The Palms, The Hard Rock is a must!! If you're looking to gamble on the cheap, go to the older side of the strip or downtown. That's where the locals play because they know that all the loud tourists are primarily on the newer end. $5 blackjack tables, $10 craps all can be found there.

    PLACES TO GO:

There's a bad-ass little outdoor bar at Harrah's that has live music (cover bands) and bartenders that do the whole flare thing. Juggling, cathing shit on their heads etc. If you go around 10pm, the tables open up ot there. Good times.

The Hard Rock: Any rock fan owes it to themselves to play here. It's off the strip but well worth the cab fare.

Check for concerts, particularly at the House of Blues at Mandaly or the Joint at the hard rock. Awsome places to see a show.

Hope some of that helps, ENJOY!!!!!

    "Suck a fat one, faggot."
-MikeL, showing off that sharp wit of his.

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

Sleepless in Vegas!! Seriously, You don't really sleep much in Vegas.
All great tips so far. Not much I can add to it. But if you're going for work then you might want to be a little responsible... Have fun!! (it's hard not to)
I just want to remind you again to wear comfortable shoes. And take a walk through every hotel/casino on the strip. I stayed at Mandalay Bay last time I went (all the way at the end of the strip--beautiful hotel though). The strip is a loong walk but it's a great walk.

I am getting married in Vegas on March 30th. We have quite a large group going and it's going to be a blast.

It's funny, we were just watching a show on the Travel channel about the Do's and Don'ts of Las Vegas. Their list was pretty much the same as all the things you guys have posted here so far.

I don't really have any tips to add. The tram behind the casinos is a great deal. Don't be fooled by how close something looks. As others have said, everything is so big you might think it's just a few blocks away when it's really more like a mile or more away.

As far as gambling is concerned, I've had the most luck at the older casino's.

    Good luck, and have fun!
