Default Why no live VH with DLR?

There has been many threads here like: "BOBW would have sold more with Dave singing on the live tracks" or " What a slap in the face, SH singing Dave songs live"

The reason is simple, EVH and AVH just cringe when they listen to all the live footage and tapes they have. The man CANNOT SING PEOPLE! That is why there is no Live from Oakland, or official US Festival releases.
EVH stated that it makes him sick to hear the US Festival boots.

    ROTH cannot cut it live.
    SO get over it.

Yeah -- you're right -- He sucked his way his way through 25+ million units worth of records with Van Halen.

To the contrary, the Oakland concert sounds and looks pretty damn good and not too far from the albums. Agreed that US Festival was a performance clusterfuck, but it was awesome in spirit.

Eddie's own drunken performance was embarrassing as well at the US Festival so I can understand why he would feel sick.

The last time I was over at 5150, Ed and Al played some old live stuff for me. It was kinda dark in there, so I couldn't tell if they were cringing or not. Was the lighting better when they played it for you, EBEVHMM2005?

Eddie played bad at the US Festival?? Of 1983???

Damn, last time I saw the video he was pretty good. Regardless of his little fuck up on Cathedral. At least he played better than at Largo.

In reference to Dave, the Oakland concert was the best I have ever heard Roth in VH Live. I'm surprised that isn't an official concert video. Bummer!
    Respects.

I don't neccesarily agree with the original poster's method of delivery, but it may be true...as far as Eddie and Alex not liking Dave's singing live.

    They've said it many times.

Now, having said all that, I don't think it would ever do Dave justice to release live material that wasn't a DVD...Dave's performance, I've grown to learn is more than his singing...(which is average at it's best)...to get the true feel of Diamond Dave you need to get a full live performance...stage show and all.

    In my humble opinion...

Dave had no regard for getting the lyrics right, gettting the right tone, putting real effort into the singing, etc, at least it appeared so, from any footage I've heard or seen after 1979, with the exception of the 1981 Oakland show. He cared more about his "performance"- meaning shaking his hips, his bravado, banter, how he looked, etc. He was the show, in his mind.

Yeah Edward and Big Al looked so miserable during those shows, didn't they??

You want a "perfect" replication of the album at a live show, just stay home and listen to the album. The whole vibe with a live show is just that, the vibe and energy of the music and the fans.

    There's nothing like it.

And Edward's such a perfectionist of his work anyway, I'm not surprised that they haven't released any live stuff from Dave's time. Even in 1998, he said he was still waiting for VH's Stairway to Heaven or Dark Side of The Moon. And we all know what came from 1998.

btw - As far as live shows with Dave, I think you had to be there.

How recent was that? I've been on "hold" on the phone with Ed for most of the week... Still waiting to ask him about Mike Post...

whatever dude if you had been on the music scene in the late 70's and early to mid 80's , you would know that CVH was the best. Saying Dave can't sing is just foolish. If you dont' like it, fine, but Dave has a stake in the major success of VH. That's never going to change. So "get over it". I happen to love his drunken live performances. People seem to forget that VH was the "party" that rolled into your town. No one was sitting in the audience bitching at those early shows. They were going w/ the energy of the most exciting band they had seen in recent memory. Oakland 81' is the Holy Grail and we all know it. Dave may rub you wrong ,,,,,fine. But to deny that the dude is legit in some way cuz he doesn't sing like Roy Orbison, Ain't cutting it w/ me. We all dream about hitting the American Dream and Dave did it. Hooray for Dave!!!
I'm so sick of Ed and Al and dude's like you trying to discredit Dave, cuz he "can't sing".
What the "Flip" does that have to do w/ GREAT MUSIC???? Half of the GREATEST ARTISTS in the the rock & roll world can't sing worth a shit. It's about the music ... if it hits you right than it's GOLD. End of story
