    Default Why Mike Post?

    Hey All,

Nothing against Mike Post - as he is incredibly talented at what he does, but NOT as a Producer for any hard rock band. With all the brilliant producers out there - Bob Ezrin, Bob Rock, Richie Zito, Rick Rubin, Jack Joseph Phiug, Jack Douglas, Michael Barbiero, Marti Friederickson and a ton of others - why would Eddie search out Mike Post and honestly what did he expect him to bring to the band. I just could never understand it. To me, it's like composer John Williams producing KISS.

Can anyone shed any light on this. Did Eddie just want someone that he could control, instead of the other way around. I also wonder why Glen Ballard wasn't used again, but he was used for both Greatest Hits packages.

I'm on the phone with with Ed right now... But thanks to Call-Waiting, I just got put on hold... I'll ask him in a minute... Wonder who he's talking to?

They were golfing pals I believe. Guess it sounded like a great idea on the course. Turned out to be shit.

On the subject of procuders, if VH ever works with Dave again, I'd love for Rick Rubin to be at the board. He brings an edge and a unique left of center originality that would fit perfect with Dave's attitude and approach to fronting a band. Another disc with Hagar, and I love to hear what a Bob Rock collaboration would sound like.

Just my opinion, of course, producer for the "next" album is not exactly a big concern at the moment.

Actually, I'd like to hear what Bob Rock comes up with with Dave or Sammy. I thought Rock did a fantastic job of capturing Dave's personality on "A Little Ain't Enough". Best DLR solo disc, IMO.

Yes, I'm sure that was all on Bob.

Is it POSSIBLE it had something to do with the talent he was working with?

    Maybe?

    Little Dreamer,

No offence, but if you think that is the only good thing Mike Post has ever done, you obviously don't know what Mike Post has done. The Rockford Files is one of the greatest theme songs ever in TV history, not to mention Hill Street Blues. The man is a genius in his medium of theme songs, but not as a producer for Van Halen.

Maybe Mike Post can become the 4th singer?! Or maybe Mike Post can produce David Coverdale's next album...

I'd love to see them work with Brendan O'Brian. Greatest producer on the scene today, IMHO...

BTW, Mike Post is a great talent in my book. Don't forget the theme for Magnum PI...kewl tune that is. I used to have an LP as a kid that was basically Mike Post's gretaest hits. Had ALL those KEWL TV songs he did in the 80's, plus some of his previously unreleased stuff. I'll have to see if there's a copy of that out around anymore...
