    Default Epi Les Paul question

Just got my Epiphone Les Paul 100 (lefty) from Music123. Great guitar, beautiful finish and sound. Though the tuners are pretty decent, it went outta tune fairly fast. Any advice on what kind/size of locking tuners I should buy? Sperzel sounds like a good brand...........

I put sperzels on a Hamer SAT-F, and never had another tuning problem. In fact, I have sperzels on 3 different guitars.

dude I have an epi Les Paul, and while the tuners may be a problem, Make sure you get a GOOD set up first. Les pauls are notorious for going out of tune and if you just got it, there is no guarantee that its set up to go outta of the box. Try the set up first, you may save a ton a dough.

Yeah, it certainly wasn't in tune when I got it outta the box, but the setup itself isn't too bad. I did the harmonic-then-fret-at-the-12th-fret routine and they matched in pitch. But I guess a pro setup couldn't hurt. It's a good LP and beautiful as can be. The tuners seem solid, but I may get a better pair anyway. Wouldn't hurt to save the originals as a spare set.

By the way, what is a good product for cleaning the fretboard? The entire guitar for that matter.

I've had tuning problems with my Epi. Korina Explorer. I finally changed the tuning pegs, but I still spend more time retuning than I do playing. Especially after doing any decent bends. Bummer, 'cause it's a fun axe to play. It has the same setup as a Les Paul. I guess I'll try a setup. But what is actually adjusted on it? My intonation seens to be fine. Anyone care to explain?

If you changed the tuners and its still going in and out, take a pencil and rub some graphite onto the nut slots and down on the bridge saddles. That will help to keep the strings from binding at the nut. I use lemon oil on all of my rosewood fretboards, does a great job cleaning and conditioning, and smells nice too I've used about everything under the sun at one time or another, but for me lemon oil rocks. Try to stay away from furniture polish, I used pledge on a rosewood fretboard once and royally fudged it up.

You beat me to it...This is actually what Eric Johnson himself does...You can also get graphite based lubricants like Nut Sauce...Locking tuners are always cool, but spend the extra dough at the time and have your guy install a graphite nut, too...

Brilliant! I used the pencil lead in the nut and bridge saddles and it seems to have solved the problem. I've heard of this technique before but didn't think it would make any difference. Now I'm kind of pissed that I blew 60 bucks in new tuners! (but the origional tuners kind of sucked anyway)
