Default All right you sinners, swing!

I remember the very first time I heard "Sinner's Swing". A couple of my buddies and I were out cruising on a Friday night back in the early Spring of 1981. We all knew it was Van Halen the second that incredible EVH riff kicked off the tune. "She looked so fucking good, so sexy and so frail, something's got the bite on me, I'm going staright to hell." Classic Diamond Dave. This underrated gem from Fair Warning always takes me back to a simpler and happier time in the history of the Mighty VH and never fails to bring a smile to my face.

I remember when FW first came out, I didn't really care for this one (picky me - I know). I thought we'd get VH forever for some reason. Anyways, I remember always skippin the needle on this one to Hear About it Later. I had one of my friends put it on cassette for me and told him to skip SS, now SS is one of my favorites. Edward's work on this one is awesome!! Next to Unchained of course and the always dark Sunday Afternoon in The Park.

    Go figure.

Not a hard tune to play on guitar, but I have a bitch of a time gettin the groove right for it. I'm just too laid back a player to play this tune. It smokes though, and the chorus DYNOMIIITE! I love this one.

Well now I'm notta musician (or a player like some) but anyone trying to duplicate Edward's work is in for some disappointment.

Edward is always imitated, never duplicated. IMO.

Funny. It was one of my fave tracks when FW hit. A toss off riff fer sure,
but the kinetic energy and liveness made the difference, and always got suckered by the harmony vox.

git git git git git out and push.

If Dave never said 'fuckin' in this tune, it would be played as much on the radio as Unchained has been over the years. It's that good.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

I agree. I do hear it once in a while on Philly stations with the F word bleeped.

Jim Ladd, who is currently a DJ here in Los Angeles on 95.5 KLOS, used to play this song quite often back in 1981 when he was a DJ with the now defunct 94.7 KMET, and he NEVER bleeped out the "F" word.

They didn't on some of the SF stations either. KRQR comes to mind.

Great, great song. Often overlooked because of Mean Street, Unchained, and So This Is Love?

SS is a great raw tune. Nice to konw other fellow VH fans like it.
It was nice to see someone mention Sunday Afternoon in the Park. That is such a dark piece of music. Totally not the style of VH though, but I understand there was a lot of tensions starting to brew in the band during FW that I can see how this piece of music was released. I would love to know if they ever considered laying down vocals to that dark music.

The guitar solo at the end of one foot out the door is killer but no one listens to the song to appreciate it. Its right up there with some of Eddies best work.

Well now wait a sec, let's not be too hasty with that assumption there. I'm sure there are a lot of listeners (myself included) who appreciate that end solo, not to mention the entire album!!!

Sinner's Swing is a great song with a killer tone and it always figured as one of my favourites tracks from Fair Warning. The solo part is awesome - seems to me Eddie just let it came naturally... .
