I love the Cars. They're one of my all-time favorites. Ric's death hit me hard. Even though we knew the Cars were done, now, we absolutely know that the Cars are done. Ric wrote some of my favorite rock songs of all time. His style has influence my own writing.

Naturally, I've been listening to a lot of Cars this week. So many bangers, but one song really stuck out this week: "Tonight She Comes". I realized, once again, how near-perfect this song is. It's a master class in songwriting, and Elliot's guitar solo is sublime. It brought me back to 8th grade, and how stoked I was when it hit the Top 10.

Thanks so much, Ric, for so much excellent music. We will miss you always.

What a cool tune, and i love how "Fridays" let them extend it, or perform the

Losing Ric, has hit me a bit harder than i anticipated.

I think it's the fact that he was such a musical presence throughout the 80's,
and those were the days where i came of age and had a pure enjoyment of life.

With him gone, you just feel closer to your own mortality and the fading of a truly
    golden era in music.

But it's nice to hear all the tributes on college radio, this week (WMFO, WMBR, etc.)
From the metal shows, to the Punk shows, to the indie shows, all have devoted entire
programs to The Cars & Ric's solo work.

Even "Lost & found" played the Ric/Ben Orr (Milktoast?) project, pre-Cars.

Hordes of live stuff & Cars demos, were played as well.

The Metal DJ: The Cars were fucking awesome.

The Punk DJ: Man, i've always just loved The Cars..

Indie Girl: My parents loved them, and i love them.

They also played the bands, Ric produced (quite a variety).

It's been a week, and another program just busted out another tribute.

The Cars were pretty universally respected by most corners of the music world...country to reggae to metal, pop to hip hop to punk to rock.

    They were an everyman band.

Lol! Why would I ever explain myself.

Since you chose The Empty Hearts in your post... do some homework on why they might be in a Cars thread... or don't.

Your post expressed exactly why I feel the way I do. The cover band I was in back in the late 70's to early 80's played a number of their songs, and they always went over great with the people attending shows. Ben of course passed away in 2000, and after saying they would never reunite, Ric and the other remaining members released the new album back in 2011 and even had a small supporting tour. Just last year they performed at the R&R HOF induction. So as long as they were all standing there was the possibility of more "Cars", even though it became less likely as they got older. Like many I was surprised that Ric was 75, so he was around 74 when performing at the HOF induction! And this sort of thing reinforces how wasteful it is that all of the VH members are still alive and not performing together in some capacity. I had a good run with them however beginning in '78, and rock and roll wasn't meant to last forever. Yet in many cases it seems like it almost does.
