Default Where were you when you heard the first song off an new VH album

First of all I will apologize if this has been posted once before. Does anyone remember where they were when they first heard a new VH song. For me it goes the following: (sorry for only Van Hagar but I lead a sheltered life for quite sometime (I grew up in Central Maine.) I do love both eras.

    Black and Blue---Doing homework

Poundcake----- Not going to bed (after working a night shift to hear the new song.)

Me Wise Magic---- Driving to work.

Don't Tell Me--- Driving to look for a job.

Without You--- In bed after a working a night shift (had to turn on the radio after all the hype.)

Its about time--- Driving to Work.

You know, I miss hearing DJ's say "We got new Van Halen coming today and will play it once we get it."

Humans Being - The movie theater, I think the video was played right after the movie.
Without You - Vaguely remember seeing in 1998 during some random MTV video thing. Didn't really like VH at the time but distinctly remember the video.
    It's About Time - A friend's computer.
Up For Breakfast - July 6, 2004. The only new song of the two played that I remembered.

    hmmm....

"Jump" - the the world premiere of the video on MTV

"WCTBL" - In my mom's VW Bug on the way to school just as we'd dropped my sis off (I was already in my freshman year). On KLOS.

"Get Up" - In my room one night, had by "ghetto-blaster" tuned again to KLOS.

"Black and Blue" - was wearing headphones in my History class, again tuned to KLOS. Mark and Brian premiered it. Luckily had a seat in the back of the room, Teacher never noticed.

"Poundcake" - Clock radio, was sleeping in that day.....again, KLOS. Bob Coburn premiered it a few scant minutes after I woke up.

"Don't Tell Me" - Sadly, I heard this in my truck while waiting for the unemployment office to open. Was, understandably, the high point of my day. Again, KLOS.

"Humans Being" - First heard watching Twister. I knew Halen had a song in it, but didn't know if it was new for the film or not. As soon as I heard Sam, my ears perked up. Saw the video on MTV a few days later.

"It's About Time" - Again, KLOS. Was driving home from work and listening to KLOS the whole way over. They were playing it twice in a row, on the hour. I've never heard them do that for any other band.

My first "VH song debuts" excitement started with Why Can't This Be Love when I was 14. I remember badgering the DJ's all of February before the 5150 release with "is it out yet???!?!" "when can we hear it?!?!". All of my debut memories came courtesy of WRIF in Detroit.

I also remember really getting into VH heavily right after the 1984 release (bought the first 6 albums within 3 months of getting into them). When Roth split I used to call the DJs at WRIF to speculate with them who could front VH (Billy Squier??, Kevin DuBrow??). When I heard through MTV news that Hagar was going to lead VH i remember thinking "huh, that makes sense.. Cool".

Pretty Woman - Was watching a 2 hr video show on a Sun afternoon, on some Boston UHF channel on the black and white tv. They showed a montage of clips from VH's earlier videos, then showed the PW video. My mother came in to see what I was laughing about, I told her that she probably didn't want to know.

Jump - Listening to WAAF in Boston, driving to a friend's house. Remember driving very slowly down his street, to hear the end of the song.

WCTBL - In a friend's dorm room, she taped it off the radio.

Black and Blue - Driving back to the office from a home visit, when I was a case manager for an elder care agency. Listening to WBCN in Boston.

Don't Tell Me - A few minutes after the ball dropped on New Year's Eve, flipping around the channels and just happened to hear the vj say "Van Halen" when I came to MTV, saw the world premier of the video. Total luck.

Yeah, I was a goofball. Made more sense to me at the time than the Patty Smythe fronted Van Halen thing circulating.

Funny though, at the time I had no idea (or cared) that QR and VH shared a stage way before Warner Bros signed VH or that Bill Aucoin turned down a chance to sign VH in order to sign Piper (Squier's band).

Hilarious what if ?? topic now that you mention it.. Probably a brutal album and then VH would be back with Roth by '88. Picturing DuBrow wailing his way through Panama!!

Any more what ifs?? Patty Smythe?? the different singers for different songs album theory that was allegedly bounced around??

    Yep, 1978.

My brother bought VH1 the weekend it came out, we were up in Modesto, CA. We'd been reading about them and how they were tearing up the club scene in LA and that Ronnie Montrose was jealous of their guitar player. It was released on a Tuesday, we bought it that Saturday and listened to it Sunday night when we got home.

Dance The Night Away - I was at work at Straw Hat pizza, I didn't recognize the band until the DJ said "And that's the new one from the boys from Passadena". I thought they'd gone disco.

"And The Craddle Will Rock" - At work at the pizza place, this time I knew in two seconds it was Van Halen.

I bought "Fair Warning" on the day of release. The guy at the record store gave me a heads up. By this time I was a walking hard-on for Van Halen. They had squeezed KISS off of my bedroom walls and Eddie's face was everywhere.

"Pretty Woman" - I walked into the record store and the guys are like "Check this out!" and they put on an advanced copy - a "45" - and played it for me. They gave me the advance copy too.

"1984" - I actually waited for the UPS man to drop off the shipment.

"Why Can't This Be Love" - On the radio at work at the toy store.

"Black & Blue" - At work on the radio.

F.U.C.K. - This one is sad. The guy who worked at the record store, now next door to the toy store, committed suicide the weekend before release. All he and I talked about was the new album and how we were going to crank it. He shot himself.

They did a "Listening Party" for Balance. I listened to it on the way home from work.

VH3 - I was in Target and saw it and said "Hey, they've got a new one out!". I bought it on casset and listened to it as I drove home, then maybe 12 times all together after that. I bought it on DVD - used - last summer.

I don't count greatest hits albums.

I remember the debut of the "Panama" video on NBC's Friday Night Videos. There were like 20 of us at a friends house.

    Good topic........hmmmmmm....gotta think.

My older brother bought me FW on cassette for my 11th B-Day in 1982. That was my introduction to VH. I think my bro bought it so he could "borrow it" any time he wanted. So 'Mean Street' was my first dose. I had heard "YRGM" before this but I never knew or realized who it was. I was pretty young when that came out. When I got 'FW' I was just finding my band, so to speak. I was into AC/DC, Rush and Zep, I didn't really start digging VH (hardcore) until 1984. Don't get me wrong I loved 'FW' but I was digging a lot of different bands.

I saw the video of 'PW on Night Flight (the old USA Network video show).

Heard 'Jump' in my other brothers Jeep.

I heard 'WCTBL' in my 9th grade art class. We had a big ass Art room at my school and my teacher had this old stereo we would listen to. I remember digging it because I wasn't thrilled with the idea of Sam being in the band (I wanted Nugent to sing) but I dug it and I was hooked.

Heard 'Black & Blue' on my way to my cousins Graduation Party. I was stoked, I love that tune.

One night on my way home from work they were playing most of 'FUCK' on the radio about 2 weeks before it's release.

I was working at a record store when I heard 'Don't Tell Me' on the radio in the back room.

Heard 'Humans Being' at my buddys house playing cards.

My buddy taped 'MWM' for me when that first came out.

I was sitting in my car on my lunch break the first time I heard 'Without You'. Believe it or not I dug it.

'It's About Time' I believe I heard it from a link I got here.

Man, I can't believe I remember all that. I guess I haven't killed all my brain cells.
