    Default OLP Music man

I bought an OLP Music man guitar about a year and a half ago. Ever since I bought the guitar I have always had a problem with breaking strings. Does anybody else have a problem with their OLP or another guitar? If so, is their a way to solve the problem of breaking the strings? ( it might be the kind of strings I use. I use ernie ball 10 gauge strings which are pretty cheap so that might contribute to the problem).

I dunno, I have an OLP (as well as many expensive guitars) and I stopped using Ernie Balls because they break too much. I use GHS Boomers now on all my guitars and they break about 1/50th as much as the EB's. But, if it's just a problem on that guitar then, the saddles my need to be lubed or filed a little.

Yep, that's usually the problem in most cases.
Does the same string(s) break in the same place, down at the bridge?

OLP's are great guitars for the money, but they do require a good setup and some break-in time. I put a Floyd on mine.

What kind of tuners do you have on the OLP? Is that color black? Looks nice.

The strings break in the same place all the time. It's usually right near the bridge. Do floyd rose trems help reduce the breaking of strings?

Today I just bought Fender strings and restringed my OLP. Hopefully Fender strings will stay on the guitar longer than the EBs!

So did you have the Floyd professionally installed?

What pickups did you go with? Tone Zone & Air Norton?

    I'm diggin' em.

    Thanks

    Thanks Chris.
    Yeah, I did it myself.
You can still set em up to play really nice with the standard trems, but adding a Floyd really improves the tuning stability, and greatly improves the overall "feel" of the guitar. It no longer has that "toyish" feel OR look!
It also adds additional weight and mass to the bridge which I believe increases sustain and improves the overall tone as well.

Surprisingly enough, the stock pickups really don't need to be swapped out like you might expect from any other "inexpensive" import guitar.
In my opinion, they sound pretty damn good.

    BTW ...
If you need any work done on your OLP, feel free to contact me.
    I work for peanuts.

Hmmm.... You live near Michigan? :-) I'm kind of a DIY'er. Made my own 5150 replica:

Any good websites out there on how to install a floyd? Just curious.

Do you find that the bridge pickup is too close to the floyd? Is it too trebly?
