    Default Check out my sound

Here is a rough recording of my current setup. In this clip I'm playing eruption but it is a little rough still. It's coming along though. My kids were walking in and distracting me a little while I was recording this

    http://www.stevezeik.com/media/Eruption.mp3

    Equipment used :

Guitar - Jackson Professional with active pickups

    Peavey 5150 II
    Marsall 4x12 slant cabinet

In between guitar and amp :

Ibanez tube screamer set very low for a little extra boost
    EVH Phase shifter

    In effects loop :
    Boss DD-6 Digital Delay

The pregain on the amp was on about 8 and the postgain was pretty low set around 1.

My recording setup is very basic. Cheap microphone into eurorack 2 channel mixer into p.c. nTrack studio on the pc to create the mp3.

Maybe upping the post gain would change the tone?

In the beginning of the recording you can hear a lot of noise. When I have the amp cranked up like this there is always that hum. Even with no distortion pedal. Is there any way to reduce that noise?

I'd appreciate any suggestions on improving my EVH sound.

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Default MXR SmartGate?

I use one. In fact, I have to when I am cranked, or else tons of unwanted feedback ensues. Just a suggestion.

Great playing! I thought the "Feel Your Love Tonight" riff at the very end was damn cool

Damn, man, that sounds fantastic!! The tone is GREAT!! And I gotta say, that is one of the closest Eruptions I've ever heard. The divebombs are fantastic. If you can just play the middle a bit faster you'd have it nailed. Really, that is a tremendous job on a nearly impossible song.

Very nice! You're almost there. Just need to quicken it up and it will be spot on.
btw/ what speakers are you using in your marshall?

I'm not sure what speakers are in this Marshall. It is a 4x12 slant cabinet that I purchased at the same time as the 5150 II head.

Thanks for all the compliments! I have to say that this solo was driving me crazy until I picked up the Curt Mitchell master series cd that covers eruption. None of the tabs on the internet are very accurate especially on some of the really tricky riffs. Hearing those riffs played slowly really helped me out a lot.
