Default Do You Think Coverdale Was Briefly Talked About For VH

    Hey All

When the Coverdale/Van Halen rumors surfaced all over the world a few years back, do you think the band even remotely discussed him as a candidate for new lead singer.

There actually was support for Coverdale on some of the Van Halen sites (based on others that were being considered) and eventually even Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony said that the rumors were not true, however you would have to think that while in a meeting with management or just at 5150 with Alex, Eddie and Mike - they thought for two seconds about Coverdale and guaged the sort of reaction that was going on with the fans who knew that DLR and Sammy Hagar were not coming back.

With the statement that was issued from David Coverdale in regards to the rumors - I have to assume that David's name was brought up a couple of times in the VH camp. I do believe he was considered - even as a brief thought after all the media hype, but quickly was out of the running.

    What do you guys think?

Undoubtedly - and stupidly - a large and wide swath of candidates were discussed in the bowels of 5150, likely ranging from Whitesnake singers to Joan Jett to the other guy in Wham.

    Nothing against David Coverdale personally.....

I'd be surprised if Ed knows who David Coverdale is.

I do not believe they considered, thought about or ever even talked to David Coverdale.

And if they did, thank God nothing came of it.

edit- But I do dig some Whitesnake tunes.

    Hit it, Bo!!

David Coverdale would have been a better pick than Gary Cherone...or David Hasselhoff. I am a fan of his work in Deep Purple and the Coverdale/Page fiasco...not a fan of Whitesnake...can't believe Vai left Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love and went to Is This Love?...WARF, Coverdale(Robert Plant used to call him Coverversion because he stole so much from Percy) may be a wuss but at least he didn't get beatin' up by Tawny like her pitcher/husband/punching bag...all she did to Coverdale was hop all o'er his car hood...

Don't get FORD started on Coverdale--he hates him and calls him cancerous.

I agree Loons, Coverdale would have been better for VH than Cherone. That said I'm glad Coverdale never did end up in VH.

Coverdale's studio sets with Deep Purple are all good, as are some of his earlier Whitesnake discs. The Coverdale/Page CD isn't to shabby either...
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

Hey, I love JJ. Put another dime in the astutebox baby.

I believe I'm one of the few that would've liked to hear VH - assuming they HAD to pick a third lead singer - fronted by a woman. Lita Ford or Joan Jett - or Pat Benetar - would've been a lot better than Gary Cherone.

    hey man has a twin.
Anybody still remember back in '99 when some guy claimed he had a tape of Coverdale with Van Halen? He swore up and down he would mail it to Brett.
It was the start of the whole Coverdale/VH rumours. He went on and on and on about it.

Was that guy's name Cinematic Soul? anyone remember? Seems that it was.
