    Default Evolution vs. Creation

I just happened to have this debate with a cousin of mine a couple of days ago. She pulled out the "earth is only 10,000 yrs old" card on me, which I had to chuckle at given the derailed discussion we had in a thread a couple of weeks ago.

It amazes me how traditional creationists can ignore some of the undeniable evolutionary facts, especially at the molecular level. Not to forget biology, age of the earth, dinosaurs, the cosmos, our uncanny similarities to apes... the list goes on.

I'm just looking for some thoughts on the subject. Especially from the creationists. I'd like to know what you think...

Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

why do some christians have to believe that the earth is only 10,000 years old?

I mean, im a pretty religious (not TOO religious though) person, and its obvious to me that evolution ocurred.

Not every word in the bible is to be taken literally, thats just dumb.

Scientists are a long way off to proving the Big Bang theory.

Maybe the story of evolution came about so people will be entitled to a day of rest. In which case, I'd like to demand the 4 day work week!

I don't know, I was born in 1972 so what happened before that is a mystery to me.

The big bang is a possible, correct theory to provide a beginning. Yet, a combination of the two, creation and evolution, is the only thing that makes sense, to me.

The Big Bang theory is widely accepted amongst the scientific world for being the most likely assumption for explaining the beginning of the universe. There is indeed evidence to suggest it may have happened this way such as the notion that the universe is constantly expanding and the discovery of radiactive occurences emanating throughout the galaxies which does lean in favour of the theory. But as far for it be considered as "fact" is not the case yet. At least that's my understanding.

In some ways you've got to respect the nutters that believe word for word, and think that the world is only a few thousand years old. They don't cherry pick their religion, accepting the parts they personally agree with and discarding what is inconvenient to their preferences. Religion shouldn't be a buffet.

I guess you could call me a "creationist." I believe that God created
the Heavens and the Earth. As far as how old the Earth is, I really have no clue, but I do believe that nothing can come from nothing. If we were borne from any Big Bang, it was predicated by God.

That would be my opinion as well...I just don't understand why some people can't accept anything that isn't OK'd by the Bible. I'm pretty sure most of those true believers have never read the Bible.
