    Default Please who know something

I have got to ask you a little help. In my country sometimes i read about rock, hard rock american bands that are pro-war or anti-war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I've read that Bruce Springsteen is anti while Fleetwood Mar are pro.
I would like to know if someone of you can give me informations becouse this perfect difference it's seems so strange.

    THANKS

    Everybody's entitled to their opinion.

Nobody's pro-war, some people(bands) don't like that we are in Iraq but few if any have an issue with our efforts in Afghanistan. The U.S. is split 50-50 on the war. It's not a bigger issue because there is no draft and the government isn't asking it's young people to fight. You have to volunteer to join the military and specifically the Army or Marines and you have to request the combat arms.

The problem for rock bands and other entertainers is that politics can be dangerous for their careers. After Vietnam there were many bands who were left out in the cold, without the war there was no anger for them to tap into. Plus they had become identified with the anti-war movement and therefore dated, some remained activists but people just got tired of them. Green Day's had the most success with the issues surrounding the war and the President. While they've made an important statement with their last album you have to wonder what they're going to do as we pull out of Iraq and Bush finishes his second term and goes home.
Springsteen has been politically active his whole career, it's part of his success, that's he's against the war is consistant with where he's been all of his life. Fleetwood Mac has never been a political band and while I'd be suprised if they support the war in Iraq it's not suprising that they have no comment on the issue. It's not what they're about.

The critical difference is that if you're an artist on the "anti-war" side of
things, you're just a dumb actor who needs to shut the fuck up, whereas
    if you're Toby Keith, you're a patriot.

Toby Keith's an asshole. Ask any GI who's made the mistake of trying to get his autograph at one of his USO shows for the troops. He wraps himself in the flag for 20 minutes but can't be bothered to for a few seconds of his personal time for a signature and a few kind words for the men who are actually doing something for their country.

Toby Keith is a two-faced piece of shit. Hopefully he dies in a plane crash.

Hmmm. Hypocracy and egomaniacal posturing from a right-winger.
    What are the odds?

I'd be suprised if Toby Keith has actually ever voted. He's just jumping on a bandwagon to make $$$$. Ten years from now Billy Ray Sirus will even be making fun of him.

One the other hand, Joan Jett is a big-time liberal and she's also the coolest USO act out there. She's played some of the shittiest foreward bases there are - by request. She does it because she's grateful and the guys love her right back. She signs everything for anyone who asks, she takes pictures with the men and she's happy to talk with them.

It shouldn't be about politics and Keith just abuses the USO for his own good, he can post pics with him performing for the troops and look cool. MY brother was in the Air Force and he got to see Bob Hope in Saudi Arabia in Gulf War 1, he even remembers the name of some C&W artist who did a little USO show at his base in Greece with some of the Chicago Bears. My bro is about as jaded as a person can get but those people really made his day.

Man, if Ed and Al and Mike did some USO shows in Iraq or Afghanistan that would be it. I'd never say shit about them again. I know they've done shows for the Navy and Marines after Desert Storm. which makes them cool, but there's nothing like playing a freezing tent for 30 guys.

The USO is a relief/ recreation organization that helps out servicemen and women. this is their website:

    www.uso.org

This link show their entertainment schedule for 2005:

    http://www.uso.org/pubs/8_16_2143.cfm

You'll see that Al Franken is even doing a show and he's so far to the left that he gives Castro a whiplash. Bob Hope put on the most famous USO shows durring WWII, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm.
