    Lost A Loved One

For almost 2 years now, me and my wife have had the great opportunity of having 2 of the best things in life a person can have, That being 2 German Shepards. Both females, Alyssa and Dakota have been part of our family. Tuesday night Dakota was taken away from us. Her stomach and spleen were twisted. The doctor calls it DGV, says in some cases it can happen if they eat to fast. It's hard to believe something can happen in a matter of minutes. She was acting fine till after she eat. Possibly something could have been wrong before without us knowing. Anyway she was going to have to have surgery, but as they were preparing her with the anesthesia she went into cardiac arrest and they couldn't bring her back. We put her to rest last night and now she is in a better place. Were going to have to give Alyssa a little more love and attention to help her through this, as she's moping around and I guess feels a little lonely with out her sister. Ever since we have had them they have only been separated from each other one time. The time she was with us she gave us so much love and happiness, and I wouldn't take anything in the world for it. I guess what hurts the worst is it happened around the holiday. But we still have Alyssa and you can guarantee she will get even more of the love and attention that she needs. She sure gives it to us. Anyway, just wanted to share my story with you all. Hope you guys have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!

I'm sorry to hear about that. Pets are just as much a member of the family as anyone else. Take care

I feel ya man! I had to put my dog down last month after a tumor the size of a watermellon developed in her stomach. I dont think the image of her looking at me when I left the vets office will ever leave me. They are part of the family and when I had to put my dog down, it was pretty lonely. Hang in there man, myself, along with many others here know exactly what you are goin through.

Sorry for your loss. I have a female German Sheppard of my own. I just gave her a bath tonight and there is a big mass (bump) on her tail. Guess who's going to the vet soon. She's 4 years old and what a big baby. Man, if I have to put her down, that's it. No more animals for a while. It's too friggin' gut wrenching. I had a little terrier (looked like bengi) that lived 14 years. He had to be put down, (cancer.) I felt like someone had kicked me in the gut. Couldn't catch my breath for days. I still miss the little bugger. (That was 5 years ago.)
Again, I'm very sorry to hear about Dakota. I honestly believe that her spirit will live on. Celebrate her life and the joy she gave you, as I am sure she wouldn't want you to be sad. (I know, easier said then done.)

Hey Thai Boxer, sorry about your dog too. It friggin' sucks, doesn't it?

    Bummer

    That sucks.

I just had to put my dog down about 3 months ago. Almost made it to 18.

It happened kind of fast, fine one day, bad the next. His breathing got really bad, kind of a gargling breathing, like he had fluid in his lungs. That was the first time I had to put a pet down, man that was hard. I had to stay there with him when they put him down, I would've felt a lot worse if I hadn't stayed. I wanted to be the last thing he saw.

That's an image that's taking some time to get out of my head.......but I know I was doing the right thing.

It's a tough loss but it'll get easier as time goes on.

Ahh man, that's horrible. I'm so sorry. It's always hard losing a dog, especially so suddenly like that that.

So sorry to hear that, bro...

They really ARE part of the family, especially after so many years...

I'm sorry to hear that. Best wishes to you and your family. I know it's hard I lost a golden retriever when I was a teenager and I could never bring myself to get another one because of the pain his death caused.
I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

I think what we miss most is the nonverbal communication that exists between a dog and her people. Unspoken love and undying loyalty are rare in humans but right there in our dog's face. When our Riki was suddenly very sick (with bloat) we put her in the cadillac to take her to the vet. She looked at us as if to say "I know you are taking me to the vet and that I am dying. Thanks for letting me ride in the cadillac instead of the pickup truck." We will never forget.
