    Default Ernie Ball Music man

Do any of you own an ernie ball music man guitar? I was thinking of looking to buy one and wanted to know what you think. I wanted a peavey Wolfgang but those are obviously way too hard to find. Anyways tell me what you think about the music man

Gonna move this to the guitar room, you'll get more responses in there.

By the way, Wolfgangs are not hard to find at all. Just gotta know where to look. I bought one on ebay three months ago for a very good price. Would love to have a EBMM though.

Well if you want an EVH Eb/MM they would be a lot harder to find than the Wolfie's.

If EB/MM still makes thier renamed version of Ed's guitar it would be a good buy. I think its called the Axis? High quality stuff.

which guitar seems like an overall better guitar, the music man or the wolfgang. Im thinking that the music man might be better. Some people say that the floyd rose on the wolfgang sometimes gets messed up. Anyways, what does anyone think?

I think they're both fine guitars. Even though the body wood is identical in both guitars, the pickups are different animals. The Wolf is overall a hotter sounding guitar. The necks are something to take into consideration as well. Again, both nice necks, but if you have small hands, the Ernie Ball might be more comfortable in your hands, not to say the Wolf wouldn't be. Optimally, you'd want to try out both guitars in a Music store or a friend's guitar. If you can't do that, weigh your options.

Do you want the guitar for playing or an investment? Both? If you have the cash, I'd go with the Ernie Ball. Even though they are both fine instruments, ind the end, the Ernie Ball is more finely crafted and the hardware is higher quality than that found on the Wolfgang (save for the tuners which are the same if we're talkin the Standard here).

I have two EBMM's and one Wolfgang, the EBMM's are more expensive and much nicer guitars IMO. Although I've always preferred the Wolfie pickups to the EBMM. But the EBMM's are rarer, more valuable, I think they place nicer and look better. A much more well-crafted guitar than the Wolfie.

IMHO l think EBMM guitars play better, sound better and are built better than the Wolfgangs, l have 2 Wolfgangs, don't know why l bought one let alone 2, but they never stood up against my EBMM guitars, so l gave them to friends. But don't limit yourself to the Axis, The Petrucci and Luke are fantastic guitars, l use 'em and love 'em, they also have the Steve Morse, Sub series, etc etc, just don't limit yourself to one particular model because EVH palys 'em, cause someday you'll end up like me, and be stuck with 2 wolfgangs which you don't like, shop around, try everything, and goodluck.

Pink, I actually bought that one new in 1992. It was either that or the amber, and at the time I didn't want the same color Ed was playing, so I said, "Ok the pink one."

I have an EBMM EVH and it's a fantastic guitar. I had a Wolf Special for 2 weeks. I hated the neck compared to the EB. Way to flat, way to wide, and the frets were way to high for me. I have smaller hands, so the EB just fits better, but I've played plenty of other guitars that I really liked, and I couldn't get into the Wolfgang neck. I thought the bridge humbucker just smoked though. I think the all basswood special made the difference tone wise with the humbucker. Very dark and meaty sounding. The neck pickup I wasn't fond of, especially in comparison to the EB one, but I've heard that the bridge and neck pickups in the Wolfgang are identical, whereas the EB ones were designed separately for the neck and bridge. Overall though the Wolfgang is a great guitar. I just couldn't believe the differences in the necks for guitars that were designed and built for the same guy.

Great point about the Wolf Special sound being meatier. Although I love my Wolf Standard, I play my Wolf Special more than any other guitar I own.

I have a Wolf and EVH MM also, and I don't see where one is "better" than the other. If your going for a "collectors" piece,(and have the cash) than go for the MM. If not, the Wolf will be just fine.
