Default Big Ass Monkey Thread: King Kong

Anyone catch it yet, just got back, very well done flick. A little over 3 hours but really well done. Some parts could have been shortend but Jackson stayed true to the original (black and white). Naomi Watts is excellent in this movie, and considering she is acting with a stick and nothing actually there she is very impressive.

Great flick. Didn't know it was that long, have to see the end tomorrow (went before work, missed last 45 min.)

If you love the original then you will love this one as much.

The T-Rex battle was over the top!!!!

Yes, it's long, but that's because Jackson insisted on a script, so there is an actual story. The movie sticks to the first one, it takes place in 1933 and recreateds vintage NYC. Jack Black and Adriene Brody are great too.

Not for kids under 7, there are some nasty creatures on the island.

Fantastic! Everyone is really good and the action scenes are incredible! Long, but worth it. Took boyfriend as a surprise. He'd been salivating over it for months. Unfortunately he had to work tonight (overnight), so I'll have to wait for my "thank you"!

Kicks ass on JP. No great novel to wreck. Stays loyal to the original and if you are a movie geek and got the special addition King Kong 1933 DVD then you will be happy that Jackson restored a couple of scenes that were in the script but never shot.

Hell yeah, the T-Rex in Jurassic Park is a pussy compared to the ones in this one.

I thought the movie was good but it does have some flaws. I didn't have a problem with the runtime - it didn't seem like 3 hours long at all. Some of the problems---

The effects on New York and Kong himself are amazing but many other effects shots are bad (i.e. the natives pole-vaulting onto the boat, none of the elements of the "stampede" scene were believable - a number of these scenes looked like the actors were "running in place" in front of a green screen.)

When they are done on Skull Island, Mr. Hayes and Jimmy should go spend some time on Brokeback Mountain. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The spider pit scene was pointless, should have been better written or cut.

Despite these things, the movie is worth seeing, and on the plus side Naomi Watts is gorgeous (During her time on Skull Island, how in the world are her clothes not ripped off her body? Her robe doesn't even come untied until the very end of the sequence. Come on Jackson, we're giving you our time and money - throw us a bone!)

I really want to see this. It is getting really good reviews. I love Monster movies!!! I just ordered Godzilla: Final Wars from Best Buy online, so maybe I'll have a monster movie marathon this weekend.

Yes, apparently Jackson wasn't smart enough to go with real dinosaurs, maybe he thought the Plasma tv's and extra food in their riders were too demanding so he said no.

I thought it was good, all the scenes with Kong are incredible, he looks amazing. The length of the movie isn't a big deal, I didn't notice it actually. I do have a few negative's though, some of it is just completely unbelievable (I know, it is a movie about a giant ape). I think Peter Jackson doesn't know what a Tommy Gun will do if your accidentally shot by one, that part almost made me laugh. The stampede is just a waste of time really, it would have been better if it wasn't so busy, I just couldn't believe that any of them would have survived it. There are more but I don't want to give away anything in the movie.

It works basically, I felt like crap at the end so that is the point. My girlfriend evidently didn't know what was going to happen to Kong, she cried for a little while.

If you didn't have a major problem with the way War Of The Worlds ended (the son surviving and a pristine Boston) then this should be OK for you.

Just saw it last night - I thought it did the original justice. Jackson stuck with the nostalgia of the 1933 version which I was happy about. The T-Rex battle scenes were over the top, but funny. It seemed like a darker version of the original. I've never seen so many hideous looking natives on Skull Island in my life lol. Jack Black played a good role as Carl Denham with a touch of overacting. Naomi Watts filled Fay Wray's shoes quite well.

Overall, a very good homage to a classic.
Bobby Cohn: Who's going to be at Waynestock?
Wayne Campbell: Um, uh...Aerosmith & Pearl Jam!
Garth Algar: Ha ha ha ha ho!
    Bobby: Who else?
    Garth: Uh, me...and...and Wayne...
    Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
    Bobby: Yeah, who else?
Wayne: Uh, an old man fashioning a kayak out of a log?
