Default evh kramers with 6 bolt necks

    http://forums.birdsandmoons.com/foru...ad.php?t=20906

    hi guys
i saw this thread over at the prs forum...
it concerns EVH's Kramers and how some of them had 6 bolt necks...

now i have numerous pics of ed's guitars that i've collected through the years...but i've NEVER seen a 6 bolt neck on his kramers...

you guys know anything about it?

You can see those bolts were added for some reason, they're not stock. They're not even straight, but the Kramer number and nameplate look legit. It does look like a D-series Baretta body.

The neck may or may not be legit, I'm leaning towards no.

Any BTW, Ed's Kramers were actually Pacer Special bodies, NOT Barettas. Barettas have a slanted pick-up, which Ed NEVER used. Pacer Special bodies have a single straight pick-up. I know, I have one.

It looks suspect to me, I'd avoid it. I don't buy the strange wear on it either, it looks like some "relic'd" it.

i never saw a 6 bolt neck...that article makes it seem that the 6 bolt necks was something ed regularly did...

Also, I doubt a guitar made for Ed would have the standard Kramer neckplate on it, it would probably NOT have a number at all. It would have been a custom job and either had NO number or a number not preceeded with a letter.

I saw on that thread that someone had asked Mike over at VintageKramer.com if it was real, and he thought it was, and he knows his shit! But I still say it's suspect.

i in no way believe that's real...i agree on the serial number and how ed wouldn't have a production serial number...

in addition, the striping is VERY similar to ed's original 5150 which is something ed wouldn't do either...looks like someone tried making a replica...

I have a pic of Eddie, backstage during the 1984 tour WITH a slanted pickup on a striped guitar (had to be his backup)...wasn't that a custom Baretta? -Red43j

Eddie must think I'm a BOZO to want to drop THAT much on one of his new Charvel Guitars!

My opinions, for those who care:

As for the neck... By the looks of that cut for the access to the truss rod, I'm going to guess it was probably a paddlehead in a previous life. It's not even a one piece neck as you can tell by the seam left from the fretboard. In short, it's a pretty low quality neck. Surely EVH can afford better, no?

Also note the 1st string hanging off the headstock.
EVH used string trees to keep this from happening.

As for the 6-bolt neckplate ... have any of you seen a 6-bolt neckplate on any of EVH's guitars? Yes, EVH did in fact use 6-bolts to secure his neck, however, it was my understanding that a standard 4-bolt plate was used, and two of the 6 screws were recessed under the plate. I'm guessing the builder of this replica must have heard EVH used 6 bolts and just ran with it without doing further research.

How about those strap pins folks?
IMO, it's common knowledge that EVH uses eyelet hooks.

Moving on to the "relic" job ... not very convincing IMO.
How many guitars "wear" in that area, and that area alone?
And EVERYONE knows EVH smokes like a chiminy, so why is there not one single ciggerette burn?

I don't know exactly what the owner is trying to claim here, but there's no doubt in my mind that this is just another attempt at a replica.

    Simple.
    Photoshop!
    (just kidding)

His 5150 and 1984 backup must have both been down for him to drag #3 out. Isnt this the guitar rigged with a bass string for Good Enough? Or is that a myth?

I just find the D1984 serial number a little too coincidental.
    Your favorite band sucks.
