    Default Best Of 2005

Before it's 2006 I think it's aboot time to sum up new records which hit the stores this year. Maybe some titles would show up some might have missed. Anyway, here's my list

    Black Label Society - Mafia
Typical Zakk. Solid record, some fillers but with 15 tracks and like 6th studio album in 6 years that's nothing to be disappointed with

    Firewind - Forged By Fire
Kick-ass metal, heavy Maiden influence on this but it's all good

    Soul Sirkus - World Play
Good album, it's outstanding both for songwriting and instrumentalists (Schon, Mendoza, Donatti plus JSS on vox). Nice contribution to melodic hard rock

Frameshift - In Absence Of Empathy
An absolute winner! My favourite prog. metal record ever, that's what Seb Bach should have been doing through the last decade. Anyway, the record introduced me to Henning Pauly who's one frigging great guitarist and songwriter. Get the record and make those two guys to record more together!
Actually that's the first and the only album which hit my all-time top-10 before I've even heard it in a whole during the first listen

Okay now I would digress more to the stuff I really like:
Coheed And Cambria - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 1 From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness
Fucking awesome. IMO Most talented band in the last 3 years, plus this record flat out rocks. Over an hour of epic music, I already can't wait for their 4th release. Good there's that lot of related stuff like text/graphic novels to be bothered with till then

A Static Lullaby - Faso Latido
    Hardcore as fuck! Meh likey

    Eisley - Room Noises
Very good indie band, I like that girl's voice a lot. Good to listen to when you need to chill out and shit

Bright Eyes - Digital Ash In Digital Urn
I like everything Conor Oberst have released, this record is the best production-wise. And I love the lyrics (as always)

The Bled -Found In The Flood
I like the guitarworks on this record, and a very cool dark vibe

Funeral For A Friend - Hours
It's different from their first record, but it's unique like everything by them. Awesome riffs, awesome songs, awesome vocals - anyway FFAF is my second favourite band overally. I wouldn't advice the album though, just - sharing the thoughts.

    Silverstein - Discovering the Waterfront
Another great hardcore record, but as with the above it's more on a sidenote.

And on the downslides, I completely don't dig the new Thrice album. I really hoped for an uber-heavy one like The Artist In The Ambulance but it's just..weird and dunno. Maybe it has to simply grow on me.

I hope next year is even better musically. The Used record alone makes me look forward to it!

For me, the best records are the ones that create their own universe and that operate under their own rules. 2 records that did that this year in the hard rock and art rock divisions, respectively:

Cornheed & Camomile - Godspeed Apollo Burning Intentionally Pretentious
    Prog Rock Album Title

    &

    Sigur Ros - Takk

Other goods in 05 (or so):

    Billy Idol
    Robert Plant
    The Bad Plus
    U2
    Foo Fighters
    Bloc Party

Finances kept me away from the record store this year, not that I would've bought any more dated "2005" than I did, but the ones I did buy this year were great:

Billy Idol Devil's Playground vintage sounding Idol for the modern world. No whining songs allowed here!

Rolling Stones abiggerbang - best album in years from the Greatest Band In The World.

And, from late 2004 - U2 How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. Still going strong as of this date!

Some gems among the poo released in 2005.

Nickelback - All The Right Reasons
*I didn't care too much for the other stuff, but this album is pretty heavy for them. Pretty surprised with this one.

Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution
    *They're back

    Audioslave- Out of Exile
*I didn't like their first album THAT much, but this one grew on me.

    Sheryl Crow - Wildflower
*Nothing kills an album like a happy relationship Too many happy-but-still-slow songs on this one. I loved her last record C'Mon C'Mon, this one comes up a little short but still decent.

    Live/Best of's from 2005 that I bought:

    Aerosmith - Rockin the Joint
    * blahh, not a necessity, but I have all thier albums, what's one more. Killer version of "Rattlesnake Shake" on this album.

Motley Crue - RED WHITE AND CRUE
    *They're back too.

Melissa Etheridge - Greatest Hits: The Road Less Traveled
    * Melissa rocks period. This is a great collection of her hits with a couple new things in there as well.

Released in 2005 don't have, but are on the Christmas list:

    Robert Plant - Mighty Rearranger
*Heard nothing but great feedback on this one

Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
    *Gotta have the Foo

I'm sure I missed some but whatever.
