Default Eddie and Soldano F.U.C.K album

I just read an old interview with Eddie from around 1992 in one of my old a guitar magazines. I had totally forgotten this bit of info, but Eddie used a Soldano head thru a Marshall cabinet on the majority of the F.U.C.K. album. His Marshall wasn't working that well so he woud up using his Soldano on most of the tracks. I was wondering about his really warm saturated sound lately on that album. I'm glad I re-read that interview. Funny what you'll forget in 13 years!!! I need to pull out some other magazines and see what else I have forgotten.

Oh yeh, as a side note... I also found some hilarious pictures of Zakk Wylde in some advertiesments when he used to be like 20 years old. He had used a lot of hair spray and was wearing some makeup. He was really skinny and totally posing. HAHA. Totally different from the mountain man image he has today.
As usual, there is a great woman behind every idiot.

I think he used the 5150 on a couple of tunes only, pretty sure The Dream Is Over is 5150, I know as late as the RHRN outdoor leg of that tour he was using Soldano's because he was still tweaking the 5150's. Word is that James Brown at Peavey basically copied the specs of the Soldano for the 5150, my brother has a 5150 II and my buddy has a SLO-100 and if you had to do a blind test, it's very hard to tell them apart sound wise.

From what I remember about the early 90s interviews is that EVH sent his Marshall to a guy in Europe, who specialized in refurbishing Marshall amps, so it was natural for EVH to use the Soldano. He used it on 5150 and Ou812 (I think on Cabo Wabo and Sucker - correct me if I'm wrong). Wished I had kept all of those mags.

Chloe O’Brien: Ahmed Adudi; wealthy Saudi financier… Disappeared into Afghanistan in the late 90s…

Chloe (ironically): No Jack it’s a joke name, you’re being set up.

dream is over is a prototype bob bradshaw preamp as stated by matt bruck. the 5150 was used very little on the album and the soldano was the main slave. the 5150 is very much like the soldano and i have heard ed was actually working with them before going to peavey. dont know how much of this is true but food for thought.

I got to spend a day at the Soldano factory and spoke to Mike about Ed a fair bit. He was somewhat bitter at the time and even said that Ed was using a Soldano on the FUCK tour but it was hidden away.

I got the distinct immpression that Ed fucked him over somehwhat. Obviously there are two sides to every story but I remember Mike saying that Ed used the Soldano on 99% of FUCK

I do think there is a distinct difference between the Soldano and the 5150's when cranked. 6L6 tubes sound way different when blasted.

Well, that would explain the heavy tone on "Sucker". Funny, I've got a thread on that song right now, with almost no replies, but your answer makes sense. It's been my suspicion.

Yes, those Soldano's are really good sounding amps. I have one and running though a 4x12 with G12H30 sounds really nice. For a master volume amp, it does a real good job. I always thought the Soldano may have been used more than old Eddie has said, and this seems to add some credibility to the hypothesis.

Default Soldano SLO100 and the 5150

I also briefly talked to Mike Soldano about the SLO100 vs. the 5150. He said he bought a 5150 the week it came out and took it apart. I got the impression that he feels like he got a little ripped off. He mentioned that the 5150 circuit is really similar to the SLO just with an added gain stage.

Personally, I prefer the SLO100 over the 5150 tone.
