Guitar One Magazine published a top ten list of guitarists who need to retire. Eddie ranked number one. Any thoughts?

    That's just stupid.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

I, for one, would love to see Eddie Van Halen retire from retirement. While he's at it, he should call up that Dave guy.

Eddie should retire from alcohol but that's about it.

Guitar One is pretty stupid...........so is Guitar World for that matter. I mean they put bands like slipknot and limp Bizkit on their covers. that's pretty credible

I play guitar and if someone told me to stop playing because they didn't like my music or ability anymore I would tell them to fuck off. I play guitar because I like to create music and enjoy playing for others who would like to hear that music. Just because EVH WAS in a commercially popular band doesn't give a GUITAR magazine the right to say he should retire.

Its like Book World( fictional) telling someone who enjoys to read to stop reading because they started to read Steven King novels and "Book World" doesn't like Steven King novels. Just fuck off , the person likes to read what they like to read, who are you to say anything about it?

Why? What's the reasoning? Who are the others? You've peaked my interest.

He should be number one on a top ten list of guitarists who need to get their life together and continue performing. Rock needs this guy....period.

All he needs to do is stop boozing and acting like someones crazy fucking grandpa.....that or get lessons from Keith Richards so he can at least pull it off at some respectable level. Truth be told though....it's all up to EVH whether he wants to continue as one of the greatest electric guitarists of all time or further progress into whatever alcohol induced existance he desires.

    Default Guitar One List

That rag would compile any Top Ten "List" to try & sell magazines.

What an asinine comment about Eddie. Just ludicrous.

Why would a guitar magazine want guitar players to retire?

The world just keeps getting stupider.

Below is my response to Guitar One. For a magazine to make such a negative statement about an individual who has contributed so much to guitar and guitar playing in general is beyond my comprehension. Please make your feelings heard. Eddie Van Halen is still more than relevant and these assholes need to realize this fact.

    editors@guitaronemag.com

"So Ed Van Halen needs to retire? What snot nosed punk wrote this shit?
Your magazine has shown a complete lack of knowledge on the subject
    of guitars and guitarists.

You guys must have a bee in your bonnet because Ed won’t do an interview,
maybe because your magazine is so goddamn irrelevant.

I for one will never buy your magazine again and will certainly encourage my
25 guitar students to steer clear of a magazine that shows absolutely no respect to the evolution and history of the guitar.

Collectively your whole office could not play or create anything that comes close to the breathtaking genius of Ed Van Halen. Here in Australia we celebrate our heroes, we don’t kick them while they are down.

Ed – recovered from Cancer, a recent divorce, a tour last year that was in the top ten grossing tours of the USA and three new tracks with Sammy that once again showcase the skill of this guitar player being able to play mind blowing guitar IN THE CONTEXT OF A SONG.

I feel your editorial ideas need a rethink and as a whole you should collectively feel ashamed that this kind of negative statement was directed towards arguably the greatest guitarist of all time.

    Your magazine is gutless."

Overeaction? I don't think so. I am pissed off in a big way.
"i go over to my "ex's" place and plays really loud with wolfy....
and it totally pisses her off...." Ed

To make a statement like that about Eddie, or any rock guitar legend for that matter, really shows how clueless these guys are. And they are suppossed to be an instructional, how to play guitar, magazine.
