    Sucker In a 3-Piece

    I've always liked this song.

I noticed that the gain structure sounds different than any other song on OU812.

Even the BEGINNING of the song sounds different than the rest. So I'm wondering, does anyone have the scoop on this track?

Did he use his supposedly "mysterious" distortion pedal to goose his Marshall on the intro? Was he using a Soldano prototype on that lone track? Was he using his EMG-equipped Transtrem?

What is up with that tune? Because the strings have great clarity while playing chords, yet his tone is quite gain-ey, especially the intro, which is actually too much for my tastes. The rest of the song almost sounds like a PAF through a Soldano-type head.

Anybody got any dirt on this?

Same here. I always liked that song despite the written-by-a-14-year-old lyrics. And I always wondered why Ed's guitar sounded so "fuzzy" during the intro. I just assumed it was just a recording of Ed noodling sometime that they decided to tack on to the beginning of the song because it sounds so different from anything else on that album.

I could be wrong but I think he was using a soldano. The sound on that song somewhat sounds like some of the songs on carnal knowledge.
