So if you play,"Unchained," at a bar in Tunafish, WI, how much money does VH make??

I understand that you submit a setlist to some company and then they pay Van Halen--is that correct??

Actually the bar pays it, to ASCAP or BMI. It's covered within their licensing agreement to play songs "in house".

It is a complicated formula. Publishing, copyrights...it's all very complicated.

Have faith. Van Halen gets paid. Big TimeŠ

We've never submitted any list to a club we've played. Sometimes we just play covers off the top of our heads anyway, we don't put them in our list, and we deviate from our list all the time anyway depending on the place we're playing, the crowd, how our originals are going over, etc. Clubs play flat fees to BMI and ASCAP every to cover the costs of ALL published music paid in their establishment, it's not on a song-by-song basis.

Same with us...we never had to pay, one of the club owners explained that to me years ago, yet I was foggy on it.

Thanks for the verification, bro...appreciate it.

Now If my band would have actually gotten paid once in a while, maybe we would still be together!

It's done through ASCAP. I've only had one bar in my life tell me I couldn't play covers because they did not pay for a license to have cover music played. This said fee also covers the jukebox.
