WTF is a Roller Nut Supposed to do?? lol

    Hey doods!!

I recently bought a fairly inexpensive guitar for myself to kinda just hack
around on and it has a bridge humbucker that has the rear pickup metal
thingys that sit beneath the strings (closest to the bridge) in a fixed configuration and then the row in front look like they can be tweeked with a flat head screwdriver. What does that do???

Also if anyone has heard of a "roller nut" which is supposed to help the
guitar stay in tune with those crappy piece of shit tremolo units?
Do any of you think they work? would nut oil help my cause? Or is it a lost cause with those...Oh So Very Shitty cheap tremolo units?

You honestly don't know what a roller nut is supposed to do? Think about it.

What is the #1 reason strings go out-of-tune?

I noticed the roller nut is notched for each string but not as deep as a normal nut. I still here that "click" sound from the strings when I press down on the arm. is that the strings getting hung up still?? I mean i am a beginner still and thats why I ask you guys because some of you really seem to know your shit!!

Is the trem a Floyd copy? More info. needed...

If it's Floyd copy, you may be referring to the fine tuners used to tune the trem from time to time...

A roller nut stops your strings from grabbing in the nut and causing tuning problems. You wouldn't use a rn with a Floyd, so tell more about your trem unit...

I believe what he is talking about is the humbucker pole pieces. One row is fixed, and the othere row is adjustable. The best thing to do is just leave the adjustable ones alone. You can adjust them, but then one coils pole pieces are closer to the strings than the other coil, and it changes the sound of the pickup.

A roller nut is supposed to prevent the string from binding on the nut. If you use the trem, or bend a string, it causes the string to slide across the nut one way or the other. If it binds up at the nut, your string will go sharp or flat. The roller nut is supposed to allow direct pull from the tuner to the bridge without binding on the nut.

I've ran into you twice, and both times you were a complete ass!! The guy asked a simple, honest question but you are too arrogant to give just a humble response. Just give the guy an answer for the love of God. You're a dick!!

You'll use a roller nut in conjunction with locking tuners usually. If you have a nut grabbing problem(hardy har har) you can also sharpen a pencil and rub the graphite into your nut(double hardy har har)...The graphite will lube your nut. However, you may also have an improperly cut nut and the grooves are too small...

Instead of roller nuts, graphite nuts and locking tuners are a great combo for keeping your guitar in tune with trem use...

    Hope that helps slightly...
