Default Top 5 things I love about Van Halen

    Okay...

Seeing that there is all this negativity around here with the lack of news and information out of camp 5150 these days I wanted to put a positive thread out here. We've been through some of the highest highs and lowest lows, but in the end Van Halen is a band, and one hell of a band it is. Anyway, I decided to put together the top 5 things I love about this fucking band to make this place a happier place before the ol' turkey day.

    5. When I was 9 years old back in 1984 (yes I am 30 now), I wanted to be Diamond Dave! To this day, secretly deep down inside I still want to be as cool as Diamon Dave was back in 1983/1984/1985.

    4. Van Halen in particular was and still the soundtrack to my life. So many memories come back listening to the songs. Whether it was cruising around in 1992 with my then newly (well almost) acquired drivers license cranking out Pound Cake. Not to mention summers down at nantasket beach with VH blasting out from the distance.

    3. What band can you name that you like EVERY SONG. I am a huge aerosmith fan, although there are a few songs I do not like (particularly the sappy ballads in the 90's after Get a Grip). With VH I love every song.

    2. I still get chills listening to Cathedral...

    1. They just fucking rock...

Top 5 Things I Love About Van Halen

Okay I'll give it a whirl here:

    5. Looking forward to new issues of Circus and Creem mags for pics and news.

    4. Listening to all those albums as loud as possible and partying to the same.

    3. The dedicated fans who wait for VH music during times of silence and drought, ever optimistic that new music will emerge eventually, which led me to these Links in the first place.

    2. Being at the show in Oakland during the Fair Warning tour when the lights went down and I heard Edward's wailin Halen!!!

    1. Discovering the nimble fretwork of one Edward Van Halen.
    RIP - Classic Van Halen

"A lot of people take Van Halen more seriously than we do." The Diamond One

    5. The heart-warming glow I felt when I heard the news in 1985.

    4. The wonderful shine I put on when I heard the news in 1995.

    3. The sputtering spark of hope when I heard the news in 1996.

    2. The utter despair of 1998.

    1. The ongoing foolish dedication to a man who keeps pulling out the rug from under us.

Ain't it great, being a Van Halen fan?

Sorry, Boston. I know it's a pro thread intended to raise spirits. I'm just dark this month. Okay...ahem....let's try it again.

    5. Hot for Teacher video

    4. Humans Being

    3. Great Western Forum, Inglewood, Hide Your Sheep Tour.

    2. Pacific Ampitheater, Costa Mesa, FUCK tour.

    1. Fair Warning

Yeah, that's more pink and rosy, I guess.

    5) Mikey...you have to love this guy for everything he has been through and what he has put up with.
4)1995, my first Van Halen show, saw them twice this summer and it then became my favorite rock band and has been ever since.
    3) VH Live Right Here, Right Now, I listened to the same songs in the same order for four years of swimming, inspiring me to All-American status and just short of Olympic Trials
    2) Van Halen helped me discover I loved listening to Sammy play anything, and of course discover CABO WABO.
    1) Tour 2004, remembered what it was like to hear Eddie play guitar instead of Vic, as close as the Wabos come even with Mikey, there is no replacing that sound.

    5. Getting 5150 on cassette for my 13th birthday from my sister even though we didn't get along for crap...at least she had good taste. I wore the tape out that summer while skateboarding and taking road trips with my family. All we had were walkmen and a few cassettes each. I only needed one.

    4. Blasting F.U.C.K. while driving to our away baseball games the summer I turned 18. That was the soundtrack of my summer in 1991. Ahhh...baseball, out-of-town girls, and VAN FUCKING HALEN!!!

    3. Moving to Chico, California in the cold and rainy days of February having scored an advanced copy of Balance from the music store I once worked at. I was able to make a cassette copy of the one CD they had in the store and I played the SHIT out of it. I must have made 4 trips in one week up to Chico and back (3 hours each way) because I couldn't afford a moving van and had no one around to help me.

    2. Being able to take my wife to see a Van Halen show in Fresno, 2004. She got to experience what I had been talking about for YEARS since I met her right after Gary left the band in 1998.

    1. Eddie, Dave, Sammy, Alex, Mikey, and Gary. They are all still alive for the time being...so there is ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS some hope.

    I'll take a shot I guess....

    5. Remembering when I first liked Van Halen when I was only 6 years old. My teenage cousin babysat me and watched MTV while she did her homework. To this day, I remember "Ghostbusters" and "Jump" being my 2 favorite videos back then.

    4. What a huge goof Diamond Dave is. He is unique in the fact that I feel that I admire him, somewhat idolize him, love his talent for writing lyrics/performing, but at the same time you can laugh at nearly everything he does and says!!! Great live show also.

    3. Cabo. I've been there and its true: Go there once, you'll be there twice. The Cantina is awesome, seeing all of the VH memorabilia, the license plates and just the fact that there is a mini-shrine dedicated to my favorite band in such a beautiful place to visit.

    2. All of the music. Van Halen is my favorite band and I love that you can nearly relate any and all emotions to any one Van Halen song. Happy, sad, goofy, excited, and man talk about getting the adrenaline pumping!! Someone else mentioned that they played baseball in this thread, and I can totally relate. I was a pitcher in high school, and before I took the mound I always listened to Pananma to fire me up.

    1. Summer of '04 going to 4 shows on the reunion tour. Particularly being in the golden rings on Ed's side for one of the shows and having Sammy bring me a shot of Cabo Wabo as well as letting me sing some of A'int Talkin bout love. Great shows, times and memories.

    Whoa, long post sorry......

    5. Buying all VH CD's in three days.
    4. Not being able to get past VHI after hearing it for the first time.
    3. VHLinks.
    2. David Lee Roth solo, even if classic VH is what's meant to be, ALAE is an all time fav that wouldn't have happened if the split didn't occur.
    1. Hearing the crowd erupt while singing "shine on, shine on" with all their heart when Humans Being got performed for the first time live with the song's original line up.

THE PEOPLE HERE TONIGHT : Representing DAVID LEE ROTH in all his glory!!!!!!!!!

JH: "How was your New Years Eve show at the House Of Blues?"
DLR: "James...I AM New Years Eve!"

"To keep up with me, you must be fast. To sing like me, you must be great. To beat me? You must be kidding?" David Lee Roth

"I'm gonna want to rock out w/ my cock out instead of playing anal taper dork." Colonel Sanders

ANOTHER HOSTILE TAKEOVER COMING YOUR WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
