Default New Eddie Gear at NAMM

I'm surprised this hasn't been talked about lately. In that last 2 dorks interview, EVH says he was remodeling his guitar and amp, at least I think that's how he phrased it. Anyone have any info on this? I assume the Wolfgang will be a Charvel and the amp a Fender?

It's all purely speculation at this point...

I'm not a Fender guy so I don't really no much about their amps, but do they have much experience building hi gain stuff?

I'm interested in seeing a new Wolf design with Charvel, that should be cool.

Well re: Fender and High Gain Amps... Greg Howe used to use the Dual Showman series which was high gain if I am not mistaken... that was many years ago, when the HM Strat was out.

But they (Fender) have amp experience, and are a known company. When you think about it Peavey didn't exactly have a huge history of high gain amps...

Look at Peavey now!!! They have some great stuff. This was all thanks to the revitalization due to the 5150 line. They now officially compete in the same arena as the big boys.

By the way I own a Wolfgang Std, played The Ernie Ball, Kramers and original 80s Charvel (San Dimas)...I liked them all. I played the new EVH Charvel and I didn't like it at all. Part of it was the setup...but it just felt like a Fender Strat to me. I hated the neck. Nothing special other than the paint. The pickups didn't sound half as good as the Wolfies in my op...but that is all subjective.

Default maybe the tone will improve...

I think Ed could use a little less gain and be all the better for it. Crank a 50 watt BF or SF Bassman. Done, incredible tone. Heck, his old Marshall was based on the early Bassman designs anyway.
You know the best tone I ever had was with that little bandmaster cranked to 10. Edward Van Halen, 1980, Guitar Player Magazine.

You might not be far off there. I've always been amazed at how clean Ed's distortion tone used to be. If you've ever seen the Japan show from 89 that's one of the best examples. His sound is really clean yet harmonics still fly off the fretboard. Just amazing.

If I'm not mistaken, Fender now owns Charvel. With Ed having done the EVH art series guitars with Charvel, I think there's been some speculation that he'll do an amp with Fender, especially now that his Peavey days are over.

But to my knowledge, it's all still speculation.

The 'Metal Head is Fenders latest hi gain amp from what I know:
    http://www.fender.com/products/searc...tno=2282000000

I guess Ed needs a certain amount of gain for sustain purposes...(dive bombs etc)...but I'd prefer he'd piss the 'sustainer' off and just rely on gain!

Dont foget, Fender just came out with that Metal Head Amp which is about as High Gain as you get. Was it a test run for working with Ed? I dunno but, With fender being based here in AZ I know some guys over there and I know Ed's been to town a few times in last few months... who knows...

    I don't think it'll happen.
Ed would have to stay awake long enough to turn it on.
Of course, maybe if they give away a free bottle of wine with each purchase...
