What ever happened to that VH boxset?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that it hasn't come out yet or that we havn't heard anything more on this. Another Christmas will go by with countless other bands releasing old concert videos or recordings and VH will not. Shocked? NO. Puzzled, Confused? Absolutely.

I THOUGHT that's why everyone was camped out at Best Buy last night, turns out it was for some new X-Box thing.

There was never any factual confirmation of a box set coming out... just hearsay and rumors. Move along...

Around October every year I start to get a little excited, thinking that THIS is surely the year they'll do a box set, and that it'll come out in time for the holidays.

    Maybe next year.

I don't think we'll ever see it. Funny how the band with arguably one of the largest collections of unreleased stuff is the most unlikely candidate to release a boxset.

WB owns Rhino Records, which is the premiere reissue/remaster label. I'm sure at some point Rhino and WB will talk Ed into the idea of a box set and things will go forward from there.

As I recall, I believe Ed himself said in an interview within the last two or three years that he was surprised that WB didn't put out a box set. Not making that last part up - I do remember reading it somewhere.

I would just like to be completely unreleased material: demos, unreleased songs, live, etc. I'm sure that sometime within the next decade, we'll see some kind of VH box.

The only thing I see holding it back once they decide to go forward with it would be disagreements over content among the band members (Dave, Ed, Sammy, etc.).

I saw a Van Halen box, only it was a single from F.U.C.K......can't remember which songs, but it was in a big black box, with the album cover on it, and in it a VH logo sticker, a huge booklet, and the single, and a cool VH rings logo pin. I would have bought it just for that pin, however there were other things I had to buy first, and in the end I ran out of money.

You may be confusing these two sets with each other...the closest 'box' sets Warner has ever released...

The limited FUCK vinyl 'box set' was a mini-compilation consisting of Dreams, Top of the World, WCTBL, and When It's Love.

The Japanese box set is exactly the same as the albums it represents, except for a bonus disk containing two live tracks (Eagles Fly, Mine all Mine), plus the goodies you mentioned.

One thing the overseas folk get much more than we do (granted, this ain't a big bone, when we're talking tours, naturally) is limited edition singles and releases and bonus materials.

    For example:

    1. Dreams - Single Version
    2. Only One Way To Rock
    3. Why Can't This Be Love - Extended Version
    4. Donut City - Instrumental
    5. Good Enough
    6. Best Of Both Worlds
    7. I Can't Drive 55
    8. Love Walks In
    9. Top Of The Rock
    10. Eruption - Instrumental
    11. You Really Got Me
    12. Panama
    13. Unchained
    14. Dance The Night Away
    15. California Girls
    16. Intruder - Instrumental
    17. (Oh) Pretty Woman
    18. And The Cradle Will Rock
    19. Just A Gigolo
    20. Ain't Talkin' About Love
    21. 1984 - Instrumental
    22. Jump
    23. Happy Trails

    1. Don't Tell Me - Video Version
    2. Dreams Live
    3. Top Of The World - Live
    4. Judgement Day - Live
    5. Don't Tell Me - Edit
    6. Why Can't This Be Love -Live
    7. Panama - Live
    8. Poundcake - Live

    1. Can't Stop Lovin' You 4:07
    2. Best Of Both Worlds - Live 4:58
    3. When It's Love - Live 5:38
    4. One Way To Rock - Live 5:10

VAN HALEN Jump (1993 UK limited edition 4-track CD EP including Love Walks In, Mine All Mine and Eagles Fly - all live tracks, in metal tin plus circular souvenir tour pass W0155CDX).

Sure, lots of it is cut and pasted from the live stuff off RHRN...but still, kinda cool.

did anybody buy this just to karaoke VH tunes the Warner way?

And if so...fess up. Are we talking spandex in the bedroom mirror, or hoedown at your local k joint after too many wine spritzers?

Look on the bright side, Eddie must be up to 20 CD's worth of unreleased great music. Just ask him.

    Is this a legitimate release?
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

I confess, I own it. I was just curious to hear the karaoke versions of "Jump" & "Top Of The World"...

Can't say I've ever tried to sing them, but you never know... If I was pissed enough at a party...
