Default Alex snare VS. John Bohnam snare

I am currently in Jakarta, Indonesia....and I just picked up this Led Zeppelin Disc for .70 cents and it's the copy of Live in Knebworth 79'....GOD!!!...The snare sound on Bohnam's set is just a total natural sound rim shot per beat...I know alex duct tapes the entire underneath of the top snare head....do you think alex is trying to hit the snare everytime no matter what and still gets the rim shot sound without actually doing a rim shot???....Sounds incredible....i love it!!!

Alex snare sounds a lot like Bohnam's.

It sounds like Alex hits a rim shot on most of his stuff.

Snare is the main drum on a drum set. The one that is between your legs.

    I hope that helped.

I love Alex and everything, but, there is NO comparison to Moby Dick. As far as overall drumming I think that Mr. Bonham has him there to, the guy does things with one pedal that most people couldn't do with three.

In addition, this drum is named a snare drum because of the wires underneath the bottom head which are called snares; these snares vibrate when the drum is hit and can produce many different sounds based on how these wires are adjusted. One can make the drum have a tight cracking sound or make it sound loose and sloppy based on preference, style of music, etc. Also, a drummer has the option of turning off the snares which will give the drum an entirely different characteristic and make it sound deep and hollow. Of course, this is all in addition to how you tune your top and bottom drum heads.

Although we are all die hard Alex fans, that just about sums up what most drummers say about Bonham!

They both are playing the same kind of Ludwigs, that's why their sounds are similiar.

I don't think that anyone was comparing Bonham to Alex as players, but just their sounds, and yes they are similiar because they played similiar equipment. I do get a laugh out of people though who say Alex isn't a good drummer. Mostly I realize it's out of VH disappointment, and gotta be mad at someone, but even so, it's silly.

On a related note, I had three arguments today alone about how Alex Van Halen is a great drummer.

Just a waste of time if you have to argue that with someone.

I read years ago Eddie saying that Alex used to tape his wallet onto his snare drum.

Anyone ever hear of that before ?
    Any relevance ?

    Anyone ? Anyone ? Anyone ?

Alex is a great great drummer .... Bonham was something rather special ...
I always preferred alex snare from the first 3 records, untill he came full circle and blew me away with the drum sound on F.U.C.K ....
