    Default LASIK Eye Surgery

I decided after wearing contacts and glasses for many years to finally look into this. And let me tell you, after 2 days, there is NO regret. My prescription wasn't all that bad. I had a -.75 and -1.00, but being near-sighted sucked. I couldn't read street name signs until it was too late, and I had to squint to see anything beyond 8 feet. I was lazy and not taking out my contacts all the time. I wanted to be able to wake up, and see. No glasses, no dealing with contacts.

There are ads all over the place for LASIK. No interest financing for 12 months, 18 months, etc. The prices have really come down, so I happened to come across this ad in the back of a Reader's Digest type magazine. This doctor is one of the most highly regarded in the LASIK world. He worked on Bernie Mac and Dan Hampton of the 85 Bears. I went in a for a free consultation, and they told me I was a good candidate, and gave me the pricing. On Monday I had the surgery. I was awake, and the procedure was only 10 minutes. No pain, except for afterwards. When the numbing drops wore off, it felt like someone poked me hard in the eye. They were burning and tears were pouring out of my eyes. That only lasted a couple hours though, but the doc told me to keep my eyes shut for a couple hours. You have to put drops in for 7 days, and tearing drops as long as you need to. I was tested today and have 20/15 vision. It's just as good as when I was wearing the contacts. It's totally a life-changing experience, and I recommend it to anyone thinking of doing it.

My grandpa got this done. He was practically blind without his glasses and had worn them since he was 6. He got the surgery a few months ago and said it was one of the best things he ever did! He said it was weird to finally see what looked like without glasses for over 60 years lol!

Oh and BTW, there is a new procedure called IntraLase, which is 100% laser. No blades. This is what I had, because the thought of a blade cutting my eyeball didn't sit right with me.

That's what my grandpa had too! I don't blame you for not wanting them poking you in the eye with a razor

I've thought of having this done for a while, myself. What are the price ranges now?

Depends on how bad you are. But typically I think it ranges from $300 per eye to $1000 per eye. Some can even go over $1000, but I was fortunate to be at $300 per.

I had mine done about 5 weeks ago and it is the greatest decision I have ever made. Anyone on the fence about this should just do it. It will pay for it's self in about 2 years worth of contacts, glasses, eye appointments, saline solution etc. I had mine done at 2 o clock friday afternoon and saturday morning i was at a swim meet in the sun in AZ at 8am and I was totally fine.

    Do it.

I had the lasik done with the blades 3 years ago. My vision was 20/30 and 20/40. not too bad, but my astigmatism was pretty bad. I had double vision, getting close to triple vision. I had no pain with the surgery. It took about 20 seconds per eye. The only complications I had was dryness. I was 20/15 in both eyes the day after, and have been ever since. It was $1,000 per eye when I had it done, but I won it at a woman's showcase. so it didn't cost me anything. I highly recomend it for everyone! My cousin also had it done a year before me, and she was legally blind in the state of Minnesota. She was off the charts 20/750+. She is now 20/30 in both eyes. Her husband also had it done and he was 20/100, wearing coke bottle glasses. He is now 20/20 and 20/15. They don't regret having it done also! My mom couldn't have it done though because she had surgery for a detached retina.

I had mine done during the summer of 2003 on a Saturday morning around 10am and later that afternoon I was out cutting the grass (with some goofy goggles for protection, of course). Total cost was $2400. I agree with Monster - greatest decision I ever made!

    (which isn't saying much...)

Be careful! A friend of mine had this done recently by a reputable doctor and has had nothing but problems. It flat out didn't work for him. Now his two eyes don't focus together, he gets bad headaches and nausea. After the fact he did some investigating and found out what happened to him isn't all that uncommon. He'll probably need more corrective surgery AND special lenses to repair this.

I thank the good Lord every day that I have 20/20 vision in both my eyes. However, if I ever did develop eye issues, I would definitely look into LASIK.
