One of the most important special days to me. One Remembrance Day I remember sitting down with my grandfather and he told me how he was in a convoy for the Canadian army in the Atlantic. He would have to get a huge harpoon/pike looking thing and fish dead bodies out of the water for friendly ships that were blown up. I guess to cover the ship's route or something to that effect.

Sounds like a wonderful idea to me. I wish all our troops where ever they are stationed the very best. They put their lives on the line for all of us everyday. I don't feel they get near the props they deserve. You folks are the best!.

Seen's brother~you take care of yourself. I'm proud of what your'e doing out there!

    Good idea, Willy!

Maybe Brett can put up a new vhlinks.com page for a few days honoring him.

An Air Force veteran and current 15 year veteran of the 121st Air Refueling Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard, I was honored to be asked to march in the Veteran's Day Parade in downtown Columbus, Ohio.

It was overwhelming the show of support and thanks from all walks of life.

    Default In Flanders Field

In Flanders Fields By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
    Canadian Army

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

11 hour, 11 day, 11th month, marking the end of 1st WW, Armistice or Rememberance day here in the UK, has a minutes silence at 11.00am for all those who lost their lives protecting the rights and freedoms of our country. It really is a day to honour and thank those brave men and women.

    Thanks Vets!

Heard a sobering item from Paul Harvey this a.m. That the Arlington National Cemetery just bought enough land to expand to 30,000 more grave sites.
    Dealing with it.

Same here in Canada. We observe two minutes of silence to remember those who gave their lives so that we may live in peace, freedom and in a democratic society. Their sacrifice must NEVER be forgotten.

I'm watching the rememberance day festivities now. The prime-minister, the govener general and ambassadors from all over the world are laying wreaths on the war memorial statues, the tomb of the unknown soldier, and on the monument for the Korean War. Bag pipers are playing, the choir is singing and the canon salutes our vets....60 years after the end of world war 2, as time marches on, our surviving vets are dwindlind. Still a great number of them.
The choir is now singing God Save The Queen before the surviving vets lead the parade....

(The soldiers currently fighting in Afganistan, & our peace keepers were not forgotten as mention was made of their ongoing sacrifice....If only there was no need for war......)

A definite thanks to seen's bro. I'll also take the opportunity to thank everyone who's fought for our country, and in particular, everyone in my family who's been in combat. Both my grandfathers, my father, and my dad's bro who was killed in Vietnam. Also a thanks to my buddy Edwin whose unit of 28 lost 9 men during their 18 month tour of Iraq and Afghanistan. Thanks to all of them, and everyone serving now.
