    Default Van Halen plus one

I was watching a dvd clip of the 95 VH appearance on Letterman last night and it occurred to me that Paul Schaffer is one of the few people to ever play publically with the band as a whole. If I remember correctly, the guy from Night Ranger played keys on the 3 tour backstage, but who else has played on stage with Van Halen???

That kid from MTV fanatic doesn't count...although I don't think he played, but didn't he sing or at least try to??

My personal favorite musician to play with Van Halen is David Lee Roth...followed closely by Sammy Hagar and Gary Cherone.

    Nevermind.....

Wolfgang played on-stage with the whole band during the last show of 2004.
"Fitz" was backstage playing the keys for the whole 2004 tour. "JJ" was behind the curtain during the 1998 tour.

Mike Starr played with the band in 1991. "Monks" were on stage during the show in MN in 1995. I also thought Leslie West joined them on stage at one point, but can't remember when...

I've never understood why these keyboard players are hidden backstage. Would it be so terrible to have them on stage and acknowledge them?

You are correct, sir. Not sure if it was 1993 or 1995, but at Jones Beach in NY, Leslie came onstage and played "Mississippi Queen" with them.

Dunno who settled this, since there was enormous evidence he was there.

Alex talking to him during soundchecks
Getting his own soundcheck (keys and vocals)
    ILAA reps talking about him
    etc, etc, etc...

So no matter what the keys were like (canned or live), Fitz was there.

Alex said in an interview that the keys were recorded and Ed would re-record them every few days to mix it up a little and keep it fresh.

AVH states the keys were canned.

Being there don't mean he played...right?????????????????? I believe he was there in case of a canned failure.

    Somebody's closer..

Right. If they were canned, it would be easy to tell. I just think no-one has done it yet. I don't remember which show it was, but at one of them in 2004 I caught myself thinking, "who's singing that?" and looked around. It wasn't Mikey, it wasn't Sammy and it wasn't Ed. To the best of my knowledge Alex didn't have a mic. So I figured it was Alan....since I knew he was there and had a vocal mic.
