    Default Buying a Cell Phone

Ok, I did a search for a thread like this and found nothing but sometimes I have problems with the search here?

Anyway, I'm buying a new cell. I went to my cell Co. (Alltel) I told the lady what I wanted in a cell and ask her which phones has the best reception. I also ask which ones were the most dependable. I explained I would sign a 2-year deal to get a good price on a phone. She told me that the ones in the -$1 to $20 weren't really "great" phones.

She recommended the Motorola V265 for $69 w/contract.
She also recommended the LGAX5000 for $74 w/contract.

I've got the Motorola to try out and have 15 days to exchange it. I looked for reviews and seen some good but a lot of bad.??? Sometimes I think many people only post negative reviews.

Does anyone here have any of these 2 phones and can comment? How 'bout another good phone? I would really appreciate any help.

    Thanks,
    Brian

All hand held cell phones work at .6 watts which means reception will be the same with any phone you choose. How well the phone picks up a signal totally depends on the network that you are using it on. Reception can be good or bad depending on lay of the land, weather conditions and most importantly cellular traffic. I'm not sure if Alltel has capacity issues, meaning that they may have jammed towers in certain areas at times of peak usage (typically between 4pm-6pm) ... the type of cell phone does not prevent you from these issue.
Having said that, certain phones may be more durable than others. Motorola have always been very sturdy. LG are great as well. Generally, flip phones these days are very light weight and flimsy so be careful. Buy cellular insurance because if you break your phone and are locked intoa 2 yr. contract, your upgrade date may be quite some time off ... nothing worse than having to pay full price for a phone should yours get damaged.
The last thing to keep in mind is what do you need the phone for? If you are only going to be talking on your phone then there is no sense in spending money for a phone that can take pictures and video, broadcast streaming video and do wireless broadband etc... you get the picture. Most of the time 2 things drive the cost of a phone up.

    1. Features of the phone
    2. Size ... the smaller and sleaker the more expensive.

    hope this helps.

I always ask friends and family members which phone they have and how's their battery life and recpetion.

While they're all the same (.6 watts), some phones have more issues than others.

Let others by the lemons first....then hop on board.

My suggestion....a bag phone...tons of wattage.....I think "it" goes to 11....
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett
