    Ali has months to live
    4 November 2005

Muhammad ALI may have just months to live, it has emerged yesterday. The 63-year-old boxing great, who has battled Parkinson's disease for 20 years, can no longer talk and is shutting himself away from those closest to him.

His daughter Laila said: "It is painful for me because I would love to sit down and talk with my dad about the way he used to be when he was my age, when he was in his prime, because we are so alike. I can't really do that. I can't share a lot of things with him.

"He likes doing simple things, to draw and colour and do magic tricks. But his attention span is very short."

A close family friend said: "His condition has worsened. At this point he may only have months to live."

Ali's manager, Howard Bingham, added: "Laila feels she is losing him."

The heavyweight boxing legend was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1985, four years after he quit the sport. He is presently having therapy following treatment for neck and back problems.

Another family friend told the National Enquirer: "The guy has always been a battler and he's been fighting Parkinson's as best he can for years. But this is one match he is going to lose no matter how many rounds he goes."

Ali won the world heavyweight crown three times and clocked up 56 wins, with just five losses, in his professional career. The boxer, who has an estimated £35million fortune, lives in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

Parkinson's patients often suffer shaking, loss of co-ordination and depression as brain nerve cells that control movement deteriorate.

My grandfather on my dad's side died of Parkinson's. Terrible disease, he just stopped being able to talk at the end too. Couldn't walk, nothing. Just wasted away like it sounds like Ali is. Sad.

My Mom has Parkinson's. She was diagnosed 4 years ago but has been doing quite well. They have her on some very effective meds, she stays active and takes each day as it comes. We keep our fingers crossed that the disease maintains what has been a slow course with her. It's reasurring to know that hard work is being put into finding a cure even though I don't know if she will be fortunate enough to be around when that happens. She and my dad are very active with the MJ Fox Foundation and keep abreast of the latest developments.
My grandpa on the other side died of Alzheimers so with my gene pool I occasionally wonder in the back of my mind what MY future holds. They are both VERY sad diseases for the sufferers and their loved ones as well.

    Jeesh....enough of this!

    Legend Ali 'fine' despite reports

    Ali turns 64 in January

Former world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali is in good health despite reports questioning his condition.

Newspapers on Friday quoted an unnamed family friend as saying that Ali, who suffers from Parkinson's Disease, "may only have months to live."

But Ali's marketing agent Harlan Werner told BBC Sport: "Muhammad is fine and he has numerous appearances lined up.

"He had surgery on his back and was in therapy for that, but that had nothing to do with Parkinson's. He is fine."

Ali won the world heavyweight title three times in a brilliant career that saw him lauded as "the greatest".

Werner said: "It is disrespectful to Muhammad to suggest that he would not tell the truth about his health. "Of all the people in the public eye, Muhammad Ali has always told the truth." Ali was named Sportsman of the Century by BBC television viewers in 1999 and received a similar award from US magazine Sports Illustrated.

    Ali Report 'Absurd'

    November 5, 2005

Lonnie Ali, wife of Muhammad Ali, shot down a report in the London Evening Standard on Friday that said the former three-time world heavyweight champion, who has Parkinson's syndrome, had only months to live.

The newspaper quoted an unnamed family friend, but Lonnie Ali labeled the report as "absurd and absolutely without foundation." The rumor initially was reported in the National Enquirer. Speculation over Ali's health started in an article in the Los Angeles Times a week ago that quoted Ali's daughter, Laila, as saying her father's health was deteriorating. "There is no truth to the gossip, which is very hurtful to Muhammad, his family and friends," Lonnie Ali said in a statement.

Ali's wife denies report husband has months to live

Nov. 4, 2005 08:30 PM NEW YORK - Lonnie Ali, the wife Muhammad Ali, shot down a report in the London Evening Standard on Friday that said the former three-time world heavyweight champion, who is suffering from Parkinson's syndrome, had only months to live.

The newspaper quoted an unnamed family friend, but Lonnie Ali labeled the report as "absurd and absolutely without foundation" in a statement released by Craig Bankey, Ali's Los Angeles-based publicist.

Bankey said the rumor initially was reported in the National Enquirer and picked up by the Evening Standard. Much of the speculation over Ali's health came from an article in the Los Angeles Times a week ago that quoted Ali's daughter, Laila, as saying her father's health was deteriorating. OAS_AD('BoxAd')

"There is no truth to the gossip, which is very hurtful to Muhammad, his family and friends, about a sudden decline in Muhammad's health," Lonnie Ali said in the statement.

Several friends have said that the 63-year-old Ali had surgery at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta to fuse two vertebrae in his neck to relieve chronic pain. They also report that Ali recently had been losing his balance and falling occasionally. He is undergoing physical therapy following the surgery on his neck.

The statement also quoted Dr. Mahlon R. DeLong of Emory, Ali's Parkinson's specialist, as saying that "there is absolutely no medical or factual basis for the claim that Muhammad has only months to live."

Ali is scheduled to appear at the White House on Wednesday to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom and is expected to attend the dedication of the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville on Nov. 19.

I will close this topic now, since it has been reported that it isn't true that Ali is dying by Ali's wife, and others close to him.
