Default Impaling most common horror film death

LOS ANGELES - Sharp objects are more terrifying than bullets: A new horror movie survey says that impaling is the most common way for celluloid evildoers to do away with their victims.

The new Web site FamilyMediaGuide.com surveyed 100 of the most popular horror movies produced since 1975. It found more than 1,700 violent acts, with nearly a quarter of those involved victims being impaled.

The most violent film was 2003's "Freddy vs. Jason," with 167 violent acts, according to the site. Steven Spielberg's 1975 film "Jaws" came in a surprising second, largely because of the number of times the great white shark chomped into its victims.

Honorable mention went to Tim Burton's 1999 film "Sleepy Hollow," which featured 27 beheadings.

Oddly enough, the "Halloween" films didn't receive a mention.

That last line is particularly interesting given the limited budget John Carpenter had on the original "Halloween". He replied mostly on unique camera angles, sound, lighting and music to achieve what has to be the creepiest atmosphere in American cinema. No gore was needed to make that movie scary.

Don't get me started on the crappy sequels, though.

Having a sharp object enter your body and being impaled are two different things.

The Omen had some great death scenes, like the decapitation of the photographer and the impaling of the priest.
Bobby Cohn: Who's going to be at Waynestock?
Wayne Campbell: Um, uh...Aerosmith & Pearl Jam!
Garth Algar: Ha ha ha ha ho!
    Bobby: Who else?
    Garth: Uh, me...and...and Wayne...
    Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
    Bobby: Yeah, who else?
Wayne: Uh, an old man fashioning a kayak out of a log?

I forgot to mention that in the Movie that scared you as a child thread. Those were scary! Not sure why, but the deaths in The Omen II freaked me out a lot, too! (Some kind of poison gas accident, drowning under ice, being hit by an 18-wheeler, and being cut in two in an elevator.) Yikes!

And the crow plucking a ladies eyeballs out...then being hit by a truck out in open road. The latter used to make me laugh! Was like watching the Incredible Crash Test Dummies.

It's the most common death in martial art movies too I think. A lot of guys die by being impaled in Seagal movies.

..which is decidedly different from the cause of death of most movie goers these days.. which is either from boredom or by heart attack after you realize you've spent 20 bucks for the movie and 30 bucks for the popcorn and soda
