Let me get it out of the way, so nobody else has to:

"Michael Moore is a fatass piece of shit."

I'm pretty sure he has like an e-mail newsletter through his site, but I don't know about anything else....
    "Suck a fat one, faggot."
-MikeL, showing off that sharp wit of his.

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

-Derrick Jensen, "What We Leave Behind"

"You know what's weird to me is Christians who are against the death penalty. After all, if it weren't for the death penalty, we wouldn't celebrate Easter!"

Michael Moore was born in Flint, Michigan April 23 1954. He studied journalism at University of Flint, but also pursued other hobbies such as Gun shooting, for which he even won a competition. Michael started working as an editor for the journal of the University he attended as a beginning to his journalism career. He then turned to filmmaking, and to earn the money for the budget of his first film "Roger and Me" he ran neighborhood bingo games. He eventually got himself into leading a string of documentaries and TV series all predominantly around the same subject; attacks on politicians and business corporations, getting his opinion around and about. He landed his first big hit with "Bowling for Columbine" about the bad points of the freedom of weapon holding in America, which earned him an Oscar and a big reputation. He then shook the world with his even bigger hit "Fharenheit 9/11" - making fun of President George W. Bush. Michael is known for having the guts to give his opinion in public, which not many people are courageous enough to do, and for that is respected by many.

So, the answer is: Sort of.

Although I don't like him I do have to give him credit, Michael Moore was a big factor in Bush's re-election. Thanks Mike.

Agreed! Not only was Faranheit 911 ridiculous, the Bowling for Columbine had me in arguments with anti-gun people for weeks afterwards. He is a piece of shit, but he definitely helped my man W get back in the White House.

His problem is he goes over the top. F 9/11 could have been more effective against GW if he didn't try so hard to slam the guy every minute of the film. It backfired and if anything helped re-elect one of the worst presidents this country has seen.
(IMO of course. I'm sure there are plenty here that think DUBYA is swell And that doesn't surprise me either.)

Mr. moore, the facts speak for themselves, shut the fuck up and save the commentary for the DVD extras.

    Worst president ever??

The people that make the claim that George W. Bush is the worst president ever have a myopic vision of US history. Basically, they would never consider a liberal president to be the worst ever (i.e. Jimmy Carter), but a conservative president would be.

    Let's look at his presidency:

Economic: When he was elected in 2000 and took office in 2001, the economy was already on a stready downturn (thanks to the internet bubble...I guess we can blame Al Gore for inventing it). The unemployment rate was steadily growing, so Bush proposed the tax breaks which ALMOST ALL economists agree turned the economy around. Add on top of that trying to turn around an economic sector that was destroyed on 9/11/01, it is pretty amazing that more people are employed now in America than at any time in its history.

Social: Despite your political affiliations, you would have to admire a president that sticks to his moral standards (stem cell, partial birth abortion), despite pressure from the media. The striking thing about his social policies is that the people that agree with the president OUTNUMBER those that do not. This is a democracy, so the majority opinion will elect the person that reflects their opinion. He does not flip opinions as the polls blow (see the previous administration for a perfect example), so whether you agree with him or not, I would rather have someone who has the best interest of the country in mind rather than his popularity and legacy based on a largely uneducated polling base.

Legal: He has now nominated 3 Supreme Court Judges, (one already confirmed, and the latest will most likely be confirmed). Forget the liberal screaming that "the extreme right is taking over the court." Voters in this last election knew what was at stake because it was shouted all over the country by the media. Not only did voters re-elect Bush, but they gave MORE control to the "extreme right," or to anyone that isn't a Michael Moore follower, that is what most people call a Republican. The only thing he has done wrong is not doing more on liberal judges making laws from the bench (see California).

Security: Now this is the item of the most controversy, because facts and figures do not sway arguments. Here it is purely philosophical. For those that say he dropped the ball with 9/11, the 9/11 commission vindicated Bush personally, and placed the blame on the entire intelligence community, which HAS NO POLITICAL AFFILIATION. You want to blame someone? Blame Bill Clinton who cut our military and intelligence capabilities in half during his 8 years. Hindsight is 20/20, so in this case, I feel no one should be blamed, because we had all heard of Osama Bin Laden before and none of us took him seriously, so we are all to blame in that case.

So then Bush is left with a decision and made the one everyone agreed with: take out the Taliban and anyone who supports this militant Islamic terrorism. Once Afghanistan was under way, he is given intelligence from many different countries (not just the US) saying that Saddam was amassing WMDs (or at least the capability to produce them). What is curious about this, is that many critics say he side-stepped the UN, when in fact he, and the rest of the coalition, were trying to get the UN to enforce its own ruling that if Saddam did not comply with UN standards by the given date, that there would be a use of force. So the UN security council pressured a veto (which succeeded in not even allowing the measure to get that far), and the members that voted that way were getting money from Iraq in the Oil for Food program, in which even Kofi Annan's own family benefited.

Bush was then left with the decision of letting Saddam continue to pursue or amass WMDs and wait for him to use them (for the third time), or he could go and take out the threat before it kills innocent people. Strange how much that sounds like Afghanistan doesn't it? In this case, we do not get the advantage of hindsight to blame Bush on not protecting Americans, its him getting the blame for trying to protect them. It is sad that right after we all watched 2,000 Americans die on 9/11/01, how much people forget even the smallest threat is. That was a situation where they pulled off the worst terror attack in history with only the cost of a plane ticket. Imagine if they had chemical, biological, or worse, nuclear capabilities in their budget. That was what Bush tried and successfully (up till this point *knock on wood*) has avoided.

As you can see, it is a ideological difference rather than facts. However, much like Harry Truman was not appreciated until far after his presidency for his role in shaping US foreign policy (stopping Communism where it starts), Bush will get the same treatment. Harry Truman had the lowest approval rating (20 something percent) in modern history when he left office. Either way, Bush will have a higher approval rating than that.

My argument is not that Bush isn't the worst president in history, but rather he is one of the BEST presidents in US history when it comes to overcoming extreme adversity. In terms of adversity overcome, he ranks up there with Lincoln, FDR, and any other. America will not appreciate GW and time in the next 20 years, but at some point after that, history will look back with kind eyes on a controversial president.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.
