    Default Las Vegas Entertainment Recommendations

I'm headed to Vegas baby in 5 weeks. I haven't been there in almost 10 years and am really excited. While we're there, my wife and I usually do a comic club or see a big name comedian and do a magic show or other. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. George Carlin and Rodney Carrington are going to be there so we're thinking about one of those two. Also, I've been hearing about this show "Blue Man Group" Anyone ever seen that one?

I love Vegas, but as much as I love playing in the city, I also like to get out and about - I've been to Red Rock Canyon (not the outdoor amphitheatre near Denver, though I've been there, too), Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam and surrounding area, driven up I-15 into Utah, driven down I-15 to Los Angeles, Death Valley - plus my wife and I went for a horseback ride somewhere just up northwest of the city. Much as I like the thought of it - don't know if she could ever get me to do that again!

I've been to a couple of the production shows, but I have yet had the chance to catch a known act - I especially want to go see a comedian some trip.

    Billy,
My wife lived in Vegas several years growing up. She's talking about taking me to 'Red Rock" and says it's preety cool. I'm guessing it's the same as 'Red Rock Canyon"?...Did you like it? I have been to the Hoover Dam and Mt. Charleston though...

I went there the morning after there had been a light snow storm in the area - it was a nice drive. Took the pictures back to work and my friend/coworker was like "why so many pictures of rocks?" But to me, it was just a beautiful, peaceful place!

I take at least one trip to Vegas every year for the past five years. I've yet to see an actual show there, except for a Sammy Hagar concert and The Atomic Punks. Most of the shows are really expensive. We always have a blast just walking up and down the strip, having drinks, riding rides, playing games, and doing a little bit of gambling.

If you make it down to the Luxor, stop by the salsa bar. They have Cabo Wabo anejo and will make a yard margarita with it. It's something like $25 (+ tip), but worth every penny.

Damn. Now I'm getting the itch to go to Vegas again. LOL

Club Paradise...highly recommended but do NOT take the offer to sit in the V.I.P room!

Man it's funny you said that about 'the itch'. Vegas is the only place where someone says "hey...I'm going to Vegas and..." and suddenly your mind kinda tingles and you wanna just drop whatever you are doing and go there IMMEDIATELY. I have only been there twice but it is a place with a narcotic effect for sure!

I've seen Blue Man Group twice, and loved it both times. It's like a high school science assembly, a rock concert, and a comedy show all rolled into one.

Saw "O" at Bellagio, and didn't like it. Tickets are outrageous, and after a half an hour, it breaks down to some acrobat doing a flip and landing in a pool. Not real entertaining.

Don't know how you feel about Elton John, but if he's at Cesars Palace on a night when the evil Celine Dion is off, he puts on a great show. And it's not just him sitting there at a piano - there's an enormous movie screen behind him that plays different movies and videos while the band plays, and the light show is amazing. And they have these cool inflatable props that shoot out of the stage and even the arena's walls. Trippy.

The Mirage gets some good comedians. Saw David Spade there, and he was pretty darned funny.

Best bet is to check out some websites. My favorite, though irreverant, website for vegas is www.cheapovegas.com. You might also try www.vegas.com, www.vegas4visitors.com, and www.tripadvisor.com. The last one has reviews from netizens of the various hotels, restaurants and shows.

Good Luck! We'll expect a full trip report!

Blue Man is cool, but a little dated these days.

Any Cirque du Soleil show is pretty hip. O at Bellagio, Mystere at Treasure Island, Ka at MGM Grand, or Zumanity at New York New York (adults only for Zumanity, I hear). I've seen two of 'em, entertaining as all get out.

Also cutting edge adult entertainment, depending on your wife's liberal attitudes: Cheetah's, Crazy Horse Too, Sapphire

The roller coaster at New York New York at night is a fine view of the Strip and the Vegas skyline, and so is of course the sky platform at Stratosphere.

Grand Canyon via helicopter from Vegas is a higher end investment, but worth every gosh darn penny.

If you're a Trekkie, the Las Vegas Hilton is a stop.

ANY concerts you can manage to see at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel is worth it. Great venue.

Danny Gans, Lance Burton....the Atomic Punks play one weekend a month, generally, at Sunset Station.

Upon reflection, perhaps I visit Vegas a bit too much. America's playground.

My boss took a few of us there while we were at a convention. They offer ther VIP room to you in a sweet package deal i.e. lap dances and champagne with your own girls blah blah blah. Next thing you know...what you THOUGHT was all inclusive was really not and my boss got hit HARD. I had nothing to do with the tab so I thought it was funny as hell.
Just hang in the main room if you go there. The scenery is the same and there are no strings attached. WOW! What scenery though!!!

REMEMBER: There's a tram that runs the entire length of the strip that runs 24 hours and stops every quarter mile (About every other casino or so) It's behind the hotels so you won't really be able to see it if you're not looking for it. It's about $10 for a full day pass with unlimited rides. Much cheaper than cab fare and easier than walking (especially if you've had a litlle too much to drink.)

    Worth The Money:

    Blue Man Group
    The Amazing Johnathan
    Penn and Teller
We Will Rock You (a musical at the Paris featuring the music of Queen)

    Free or entertainment:

Theres a little outdoor bar at Harrahs that has rotating cover bands that pretty much play whatever song you shout out. They have the flare bartenders that light shit on fire and juggle while balancing a bottle of whatever on their heads. Very cool place to kick back and have a couple drinks.

The new pirate show at Treasure Island (TI now). It's more Cirque De Soleil than Disney now so it's pretty much an acrobatic show but worth seeing at least once.

The water show at Bellagio. - cool every time.
