    Default H & H 800 Power Amp Question

Why do some guitar players have a power amp between the amp head and speaker? Will the power amp alter the overall tone? I noticed that Eddie uses a H & H power amp between his amp head and speakers.

between amp and speaker there's a palmer speaker emulator (no cabinet emulator). The direct out (or thru) goes to EVH's center cabinet, while two line out goes to eventide, reverb effects, then each channel goes to power amp and then to left and right speaker
Be ready for my new amp "III OSIS" produced by H^3 in stores soon [that was funny in 2006]

It's his little effects trick. It's how he gets his effects to have so much color on his tone.

Normally, you would just use the effects loop on your amp, right? Well, when you do, your effects are colored by the tubes in the power amp section of your amplifier.

Eddie runs the full output of the amp into a dummy load, and then runs the effects essentially after the power tube distortion so that the effects are more impactful. He takes the signal from the amp and effects, and runs it through the H&H to re-amplify the resulting signal to the speaker cabs at concert volume.
