    Refrigerator Light Bulbs?

Ok, I'm stupid...yet in 44 years I've never had to change a light bulb in a refrigerator until today.

The bulb is nondescript, appears to be a 40 watt. Do I need to purchase a particular type of replacement that will withstand the cold temperature, or can I get away with a regular 40 watt appliance bulb?

I was in K Mart and there was nothing specific on the packaging of any of them.

And needless to say, no one could provide an answer.

    Anybody?

I've changed a couple over the years, and I do believe a regular 40 watt bulb is what I've used. I always bring the old one with me and if the new one looks the same, it should do the trick. I could be wrong, but you could always try calling an appliance store, or even the makers of your fridge. (The manual may have info regarding type of bulb).

I would either take the remnants of the old bulb or get your model number and serial number off of your refrigerator and go to your local appliance parts dealer. Get the bulb that should go to your refer.

BTW, a 40 watt appliance bulb should be just fine to answer your question, I just prefer OEM equipment.

(I work at an appliance store so I have a little to go by...)

Go to Wal-Mart, they have appliance bulbs in the light bulb section. Bring the old with ya and find it's match.
    Dealing with it.

Thanks, folks...I'm amazed it never happened until now.

    Appreciate the advice!

    Yes, that's it exactly.

Maybe the fact that we constantly lost power for days at a time, had to retro-fit the entire damned appliance twice as a result, may have had something to do with it.

Make sure you get the correct wattage. If you go too high, it will heat up your fridge! lol...
