    Default Black Rebel Motorcycle Club!

Saw these guys on Letterman the other night. I think i have the bands name right. I know the CD is "Howl".
It sounded not bad, any comments before i go spend a few bucks on the disc?

    Default Black Rebel Motorcycle Club!

Easily my favorite "younger" band out there. They sound very hungry, aggressive, and have a ton of grit in their music. I don't know how these guys aren't more popular than they are, I think their stuff has a ton of potential to be radio hits. Still, for now they remain a nice "secret" to me among my circles.

I first discovered them on the soundtrack of the "MLB 2K8" video game, then I saw them open for Stone Temple Pilots in August of 2008 and was instantly hooked. I've got all their albums and personally I think "Baby 81" is their best, but that's just me.

I've seen a few people mention them around here, figured I'd start a thread. Their website suggests they'll be in Chicago headlining a show at The Metro in late March but tix haven't gone on sale yet. Great band, should be an excellent show!

    Couldn't agree with you more.

Baby 81 and Howl are GREAT albums.

I'd say my favorite is Take Them On, On Your Own with the debut or Howl tied second. I've really been listening to Howl a lot recently, mostly "Weight of the World" (with that AWESOME slide guitar creeping in) and "Sympathetic Noose."

I flipped out a few weeks ago when I heard "Spread Your Love" featured in some vodka commercial.

I don't even know what to say about favorite songs so I'll just list them in order of release:

Love Burns (probably my favorite BRMC song)
    Red Eyes and Tears
    Awake
    Rifles
    Spread Your Love
    Stop
    We're All In Love
    In Like the Rose
    Generation
Shade of Blue (one of my favorite 'bummer' songs of all time)
    Heart and Soul
    Fault Line
    Weight of the World
    Sympathetic Noose
    Weapon of Choice
    Lien On Your Dreams
    Killing the Light

I'm pretty pissed they skipped Detroit on their upcoming tour; hopefully they'll come back later this summer. In the meantime, I'm anxiously awaiting Beat the Devil's Tattoo.

I'd have to say "Berlin" is my favorite song of their's. Love that groove, it's punchy, to the point, and pretty consistent. Most of the ones you listed I completely agree with, though.

I love BRMC, one of my favorite bands of the last 10 years. I've seen them twice, the last time being a couple years ago opening for The Jesus and Mary Chain which was a perfect pairing.

They recently released a double live cd/dvd that I highly recommend. They also released an all-instrumental download-only album "The Effects of 333" through their official website in 2008 that many people are unaware of. In March, they will release their next studio album and go back on tour with a new drummer.

Ya know, there was a thread about this somewhere cause i started one when i first heard of these guys.
Not many had heard of them.
I had seen them on Letterman, when "Howl" was coming out i guess, and i was very impressed.
I had to special order the disc because nobody here stocked it. When it arrived i quickly unwrapped it and proceeded to be quite disappointed, just didn't think it was very good.

I gave it a couple of spins and put it away, but perhaps i'll give it one more chance.

thanks for mentioning that - gave me an opportunity to take another look. And the reason I didn't find it the first time is because you called them "Outlaw Motorcycle Club"!

    I remember that now.

That's probably why i had such a tough time finding the cd.

I hated Howl at first because I was so used to their garage rock sound but it grew on me rapidly.

I have mixed feelings about the ambient instrumental album; I like a few tracks but I'm not really into that kind of stuff. I used to put it on when reading a book for class as just white noise in the background.

Here is the new single, "Beat the Devil's Tattoo." It sounds like something off of Howl, only heavier.

Any thoughts on the new album? I personally disliked it a lot at first. It's diverse in the sense of material presented (rockers, slower songs) but within those categorizations there's not much diversity. All of the rockers are the same or have the same vibe to them. That initially bored me and to some extent still bothers me. That being said, I really like "Conscience Killer," "Bad Blood" and "Shadow's Keeper." The bonus tracks--"1:51," "Got No Right," "Martyr," and "Annabel Lee" are nice too. I believe Robert also recently recorded a cover of "Dirty Old Town" which is available for download on their site.

Once again this summer they are opening for STP in their southern dates. I'm still crossing my fingers for a headlining BRMC show this year in Detroit!
