Breaking news: AVH seen in public!

A small news item at www.melodicrock.com announces that Big Al has been seen at the 30th anniversary Journey show in LA.
Yes, in 2005, seeing Alex in public qualifies as VH news, sadly enough.

But wait, winter is upon us, we're probably lookin at another 6 months of hibernation up in the mountain lair.

Sad doesn't even begin to explain it, maybe pitiful or desperate (nothing against you Little Dreamer)...

Doesn't that all depend on whether or not Al saw his shadow?

Jesus Christ it wasn't even REAL Journey!
It was "Sissy Journey" with the new guy.
I mean hell if you're gonna go out, why go for that.
Before the hate mail flows I want to say that Schon is a fine guitar player but also that I am sick of bands going out under the name of the old band that MADE THEM who they are with a clone or sad shell of the original.
    Meaning:
    Foreigner with out Lou Gramm...Uh....NO!
Styx with out Dennis Deyoung...are you kidding~!?
Journey with out Steve Perry??? Not a chance.

Perhaps a little more credit should be given to bands like:
ZZ Top - how many years and still together?
Rush - AWESOME music and orginal crew
Aerosmith - Classic and although toubles have exist they reamin a solid line up.
Cheap Trick...Yes even Cheap Trick has been together and solid for about 25 years!
There are no doubt several more that have hung in there and and or worked it out for the long haul. But there are far more that have not. Too many just go get a new guy to stand there and pretend to be the old guy for a few songs a night so everyone can still get a check. Sad....but true. It aint that I have any trouble with folks making a living...hell it's a sluggish economy I get ya gotta do what ya gotta do....just don't call it Journey or Foreigner or Styx or any of the other bad copies of their former self. Call it something new.
    People use to do it quite a bit back in the day;
i.e. The Firm, Mike and the Mechanics, Tin Machine etc...why do folks gotta tarnish the name and essientially insult their fans by calling it what it is not?

Wow....didn't mean to tear off on a rant quite this bad.

6 months is to short of time. More like 6 YEARS!!!

How about Al getting out and getting behind a drum set on stage for the 2006 VH Tour.

I totally agree the vision I have of Journey is with Steve Perry..not with this new guy..I mean your celebrating 30yrs with a guy thats been with you for what 2-3 yrs..The greatest years of journey are with Steve perry!!!
Ill never forget seeing the Diver Down tour at the LA Forum (sold out 3 nights)
and Journey doing the same thing on there Frontiers tour shortly or before that tour (Diver Down) I belive...
And I thought that Journey hated VH for some shit way back at some hotel when they toured with them??? Maybe not Alex

I like Steve Perry with Journey too fellas, but that's over. Has been for awhile now. Go and pick up the new album Generations and then you can judge the new Steve. This guy has some serious pipes, and the latest Journey disc is the best they've had in years. The problem with Journey is that their fans are so hesitant to except anything new. Steve Perry has been out of the band for years now. It's time to move on. Everybody is so damn quick to dismiss Steve Augeri. Give the guy a chance. There's no way in hell this latest disc is as sappy as the last cd they did with Perry. No way.

Anyways, it's nice to see Alex is still around. He, EVH and Neal Schon are very good friends from what I hear.

Don't get me wrong, I hear where you guys are from. Celebrating 30yrs is a milestone and Steve Perry should be there, but from what I hear it's not going to happen. So are they supposed to just sit around and twiddle their thumbs? I don't think so.

I wonder while seeing them perform he thought "That looks fun. We should get off our asses and get out and play some music." How can he not want to get one of the VH line-ups together and go out and play. I will never understand how success and money wipe out the inherent love of music and the feeling of playing live (which is why most musicians get in the game). I would think it would be even more fun making and playing music for a living with huge bucks in the bank because the "financial" pressure is off and you could go with the artistic flow. I mean, hell, tour clubs, play one-offs here and there, play 5 nights at one venue playing strictly deep catalog cuts and obscure covers. Just get out and play and continue the magic. It doesn't have to be a 60 date beat down of an arena tour anymore. VH can do what they want, if they would get their shit together.
