    Default Sound System Question

I was not sure where to post this question, so I threw it here. I have a Yamaha sound system that I use when we play. I usually mic vocals (obviously) and the guitar amp. This time I will be plugging a keyboard into the system. But my question is, do you ever mic the bass amp? I am not sure if that would be too much for the system to handle.

The answer to your question is, it depends.

It depends on the size of the venue that you are playing. Ideally, you should mic everything, and try to turn your stage volume as low as you can. Your guitar amps (bass amp) should only be loud enough so that you can hear it over the drums on stage. You want all the sound to hit the audience from your main speakers for the best sound out front. Mic your drums, amps, everything.

If you are playing a small venue, where you don't need to mic the drums, just turn your amps up and don't mic them. Use your P.A. for the vocals only and a little bit of kick drum.
