    Amp speakers

    Hey dudes!

Would having 2 x 12" speakers help brighten my tone? I mean to get more of that "bright shimmering" tone that we see on VH balance or even Zakk Wylde has that "shimmer" to his tone. I do use chorus and flange to brighten it up but i only got a single 12" speaker in my oh "so little" 60 watt Peavey amp.

Also...what do you guys think of the Crate PowerBlock ??

Is it ballsy enough to stand on it's own...or is it a stomp box distortion pedal without the stomp box part? lol

    Let me know

I have the powerblock and it can put out the sound pretty well. It's a bit clean and thin so I wouldn't use the term ballsy to decribe it. It is unique and small.

Believe it or not my Flextone 3 is quite a bit more ballsy, but I believe that ballsy is in the fingers of the beholder.

If you want that the warm rock sound try looking in to some Celestion Greenback speakers some of you might not agree with me but they are the best in my book...

I am a tone nazi but....

A 2X12 won't give you anymore 'brightness'. If it's a closed back cab, then you'll get more bass response. The speaker has alot more to do with the 'brightness' than the speaker configuration.

Celestion Greenbacks or the Celestion Vintage 30 watts are good. As far as 'brightness' goes... just buy the same pickups that Zakk has and a good Overdrive pedal.

Overdrive + Tube distortion = Good.

I know you didn't ask but, I put Crate and Casio in the same category.

I'm gonna go off on a little rant here, so ignore the rest of this reply if you're easily offended.

I'm constantly amazed at just how much garbage equipment there is out there. Saw a show Saturday night and the guitar player had one of these Digi -Crap RP-shit7000 multi vomit pedals.

It sounded like total ass. Seriously, why would anyone want to use of these things live? I can totally see using it for practice or maybe even some recording. But these things are made of plastic for pete's sake!. They're toys.

I've done sound and backline for alot of bands. And the best sounding guitars have always been the ones that DID NOT include of these tinker toys.

These crappy things are marketed to players in magazines and it's a shame. They're crap. Don't buy them.

I've had the 40 year old Fender Showmans, Princeton pre-CBS, Gibson Discoverer, Kustom, and on on on, but I swear maybe it's just because I play so much better now then when I was a kid, but none of the aforementioned have been as versitile and useful as the Flextone 3. Though they are more throaty the 3 still can be tweaked to deliver the goods as well. I think the batteries in my vintage Rat are all dired up at this point as well.

Take a look at Ed & Zakk's rig setup and really see why you can't emulate the shimmer...
