    Default US Festival

I know this may be sacrilege around here, but I must get this off of my chest...I was listening to the radio yesterday (a station out of Rhode Island- WHJY, I think), and they played 3 tunes from VH's US Festival show- this was the 1st I had heard of this "Legendary" show, and to sum it up, it was horrible- spoiled by DLR, no less...they played Pretty Woman, RWTD, and YRGM- and I swear Dave made absolutely no effort to sing along with what the rest of the band was playing...musically/sonically, they sounded ok, but Dave was so off, it was hard to enjoy...He got all the lyrics right (didn't pull a Vince Neil), but seemed to just toss them in wherever he wanted...anyone else feel this way?

On a not so negative note, it sure sounded like Al was playing electric drums, which I thought were introduced on 5150...which now I guess may have just been the 1st time he used them in the studio, but perhaps had been using them live for awhile??

It's my least favorite VH concert. Dave sucked bad that night. He was too drunk to remember half the lyrics.
Right Now you're reading my post!

I can't stand rap....people who can't sing do rap....you can sing rebellion as well as talk it....Hitler would have been in a rap band...

    Yeah, and?
For me, that's what makes the show so special... The fact that the were all drunk. It's not about the music, we all know the songs. It's about these four rockers getting up and taking the piss out of themselves.
Frank Sinatra: Why do you drink so much?
Dean Martin: I drink to forget.
    Frank: To forget what?
Dean: I don't know... I forgot that long time ago

It's not sacrilege. Some of us were there. Not a good night for VH.

Us Fest sucked big time, believe it.

interesting stuff...I read somewhere else that the popularity of this show is more about the fact that there is video of it, which is rare for that era- think that's a fair statement?

I have to also say that it's a ok, show and yes Dave was alittle off, but what get's me is that I live in Rhode Island and that pisses me off more than Dave's performance... ha ha ha

Overrated for sure, but fun to watch the bootleg.

Although if I WERE there, I would have been pretty pissed to sit in that audience and heat and wait all night for that.

"I used to play the blues alone in all the local joints," he explained. 'The only thing that I can really play on guitar to this day is the blues. I heard Doc Watson and his son playing 15 years ago, and from there I got into Leadbelly and John Lee Hooker."--DLR

If you pay attention -- what I sing, the guitar sings, too, and what the guitar says, I say.--Mississippi Fred McDowell

Alas, untrue, Loonus Lemonus. You probably mean Dave has never flubbed his stage schtick which would be somewhat accurate.

However, Dave has botched many a tune during live performance. Not only have Ed and Al alluded to the unevenness of Dave live, plenty of folks, including myself, have watched him butcher songs, either lyrically or tone-wise.

Very fair statement. All four of them were wasted during that show. But the 3 musicians in the band still managed to sound ok, despite Dave's sluggish, sloppy performance. Overall, it is pretty entertaining. Eddie was a litte off too, don't get me wrong- but watch his 10-15 minute solo- how in the world could he play like that while being fucked up at the same time?- Because he's Eddie fuckin' Van Halen
