    Default EBMM EVH trem question......

I just bought a EBMM EVH (after years of wanting one) and when I got, the trem was raised up like a floater. I,m not complaning about it because it playes like a dream, but I thought the Floyd was supposed to sit flat against the body like the Axis I used to own. If it does sit right on the body like I think it should, what steps do I have to take to make it right?

    Hey Wolfgang Bob,
I just went through this same exact situation. What you need to do is loosen the strings. Then you tighten the spings on the tremolo. Retighten the strings and let it sit for a day. Repeat for about three days or until the tension settles down. Good luck.

Wouldnt I have to adjust (tighten) the trem posts "down" to make it sit flat against the body? If I just tighted the springs, the trem would sit backwords at an angle..........

It involves/may involve a bit of back and forth between tightening the claw as well as lowering (screwing down) the bridge pivot screws. Make sure you block the trem with a stack of cards, wadded up rag, or some other material as well as paying careful attention to protect the body near the trem area with a rag etc. After some back and forth, and the bridge is flush and sitting parallel to the body, check her out. I'd throw on a new set of strings to accomplish the setup as well as setting the intonation after all is said and done. Just don't overtighten the trem screws, once its flush, she's good to go.

You may find that once you have lowered the trem back to where it is supposed to be, that it is fretting out all the way down the neck and un-playable. If so, DON'T PANIC! In that case, the previous owner simply shimmed the neck to accomidate the raised trem. You just have to remove the neck and take out the extra shim. Also, be aware that most come with a factory shim to ensure the neck is in the optimum position.

I like that quilt. I've never seen another EVH that looks quite like that one. Very cool!
