Toll free ColumbiaHouse phone number-not spam

I have come to realize it isn't worth the money for joining Columbia House.
And just try finding a phone number to call them it's nearly impossible.

    Here it is:
You may also call 1-800-262-2001 toll-free to make
payment your account. If you are overseas or cannot
call toll-free, our toll number is 1-812-242-7913.

If we may be of further service, please let us know.

    Sincerely,
    Vincent Turner
    Customer Service
Here's the thing I tried for three weeks trying to access my account online.
I kept getting this web page saying how they site was under maintenance and to try back later.

    Well after three weeks
I used an old e-mail I had saved from June about a security issue.
The "security" dept had contacted me to inform me that somebody was trying to purchase "Hitch."
    I wasn't.
So I went to the website and sent them a notice that I might be the victim of an attempted phishing scam.
    I saved this correspondence,
hence why I was able to make a contact with somebody,
remember it was impossible to get thru the site,
    it was under "maintenance."

    I tried calling them,
    but I couldn't find a phone number
    anywhere.
I searched the Internet for any link to customer service.
Well I eventually sent the security dept. an e-mailing demanding a phone number.
    I did get a reply.
I was told that my two-years was up
and would not have access to their site until I settled up.
    $43.88

    Fine.
But if security could send me an e-mail about a possible spam event.
Could they not have at least sent me an e-mail notice of the impending account closure?
Instead of telling me the site is down for "three-weeks" of maintenance.
Couldn't they have had the web page say "You can't get in till you pay up."
Instead they have chased me away saying you're not "our kind of customer."

What business can afford to lose customers?
    ColombiaHouse apparently.
All they did was piss off somebody that might have forgotten
that such and such a date,
    was the anniversary.
Now all I want is out, instead of continuing with the membership

So it got me re-evaluating what it was, that I got in exchange, for what averages out to be about 10 bucks per DVD.
    Answer: Not much.

Having to buy three DVD at the minimum of 19.99 PLUS shipping proved to be a much harder task than I thought it would be.
For me I could not find anything, at this Club, which made me feel compelled to be separated from my money.

So I just got off the phone and paid them the 43 bucks balance and now I have to wait till Monday to make my last two selections: Polar Express and Fever Pitch.

The first selection I made was more than, 2-years ago, "Shrek 2"

I paid 19.99 plus shipping, it was a preorder at fewer than 25 bucks.
AND it didn't arrive till three or four days after it became available at BestBuy/CurcuitCity.
Also the brick and mortar places had it for less than 15 dollars in most places.

    So to sum this up,
    for ten bucks per DVD,
I received the VERY least amount of customer service.
I mean very little the utmost minimum.

I should have supported my local brick and mortars instead. Like MikeL said in an other thread, why not wait till the movies are considered to be "old" and are in the "budget" bin at Best Buy. Those are always ten bucks.

    I know your pain....

I finally found a phone number and called about the "we're under construction fixing the data ....." blah blah.

The gal on the phone told me to clear my cookies and all will be fine.

    Guess what, it worked.

    Give it a try.

Nah, it wasn't the cookies. My account had been shut out, they wanted their 43 bucks more than keeping me as a customer. After all I'm willing to bet that since I created this thread at least a 100 people have signed up for 12 free for a penny

    Maybe even more

Funny... Just the other day I was wondering if the CD clubs still existed, and I figured if they were business was probably not good.

In my youth I used to work over the "join friends get free CDs (or tapes) for free" thing. I used my account to join in my kid sister's name, get the start-up CDs plus the free ones for joining "a friend," then when I'd fill the deal I'd join myself back and get those free CDs. At one point when I was about 16 I joined my dog, Sammy. His name, as I joined him, was "Samson D. Thomas" ("D" for "dog"), and it was quite amusing when a couple of months later he started getting pre-approved credit card offers. Hey... he had good credit! He always paid his CD bills on time!

Columbia House is a ripoff, but I managed to make it work for me years ago. I got 10 free CDs with an obligation to buy only three at regular price within two years. Luckily, regular price on Cream's "Wheels of Fire" was something goofy like $4.99, and the other two I picked were less than ten dollars. Thirteen CDs for around 30 bucks isn't so bad!

I always used BMG to get CDs that only had one or two good songs on them. I'd always use the get 10 free when you buy 1 deal, quit, and sign up again to get the same deal. It was great.

I always used BMG instead of Columbia House because you had to buy less CDs/movies to fulfill your obligation.

Funny story about using an alias - in college I worked the front desk at one of the high-rise dorms. As one of the duties, we had to sort mail and stuff it into the appropriate boxes for residents. Well, unbeknownst to me, one of my good friends had a subscription to Playboy and Penthouse. The name he used...... Hugh Jass.

My ex brother in law joined one of those as "Charles U. Farley". When he told me that he got his CD's, I damn near died laughing!

Me and my friends used to do that same thing, change up names, etc, i think they finally caught on after about 50 cds. Suprised they lasted this long.

I never changed my name or address. I quit and rejoined a month later.

    Here's an alias tip:

Use a different middle initial for each magazine subscription you have. That way you can see who sold your name to which junk mail list.

When I was a kid, we got a subscription to Mad magazine for the "B. Bullwinkle Family". For years afterward, we got junk mail addressed to "B. Fammily."

    Don't read this.
