Default Cult of Personality-The Living Colour Thread

First of all, mods, merge this with this thread if you want...

    Living Colour thread 2001

Is there anyone else out there that is a Living Colour fan? I must say, Eddie was an inspiration, but Vernon Reid "the crazy black guy with the dreads, ESP guitar, and Body Glove spandex" as I put it in '88 when I first heard and saw them on tv they blew my completely away! I will always hold them in high regard. When I saw them in '93 on the Stain tour, they were the most amazing band I'd ever seen and still think so today. They played so tightly, improvised together well and were all amazing musicians. Reid, Wimbish, Calhoun, and Glover rocked!!!

They remind me alot of Mother's Finest which is a band that is
sorta like them. However, MF was about 10 years behind them.

These bands come close to blending in all my influences so to say.

    Hard Rock
    Metal
    R&B
    Funk

    just to name a few.

First album is great.... Heard some of the second album and it was
alright, but I don't think they came close to matching that first
album they did. They made another album out a few years ago, but
I haven't heard any of it.

I don't know too much about them, but I always liked Cult of Personality. It was cool that they put that song on Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

I saw them open for the Stones way back in the day (Syracuse) and later in a club setting. Just awesome. Loved the energy.

Man, I thought I was the only fan on board so I never started a Living Colour thread. I know ChargerDave is a fan too, so he'll most likely chime in.

I remember when I first heard these guys, it was right after I discovered VH as a kid. My sister comes on with their 45 and is all excited to spin it on the record player. She's like, "check out these guys, they're black and they rock!" As a kid I was just blown, especially since everything on MTV was Poison and Def Leppard at the time. From the opening notes of Cult Of Personality I was hooked, and till this day I'm a huge fan. I've got all the cd's, and Vernon and EVH are almost always my wallpaper at home. For a lil inner city black kid, these cats opened up a new world for me. It was cool to be me.

    My favorites are:

That's strange you bring these guys up. A few days ago, I put thier CD in my car thinking "Now here's something I haven't heard for awhile. I bet nobody will even know who this is." Just an awesome album! Open letter to a landlord. That's the shit baby!

I always see Vernon Reid get bashed on threads here, so I am relieved to see this thread started. They are a very good band- great musicians. The 1st album was very good, Time's Up was even better. The 3rd one, Stain, I remember as being very very heavy, and good. I used to have all 3 on tape. Then I lost interest. But I bought their Super Hits cd for about $8 at best buy last year, then I got into them again. They are big fans of Van Halen from what I've seen- clips of Vernon Reid on VH1.

I saw them at Villanova, after the first album exploded. They had a mariachi (?) band open for them, later joined them on stage for encore. Was strange to see that. Living Colour rocked though!

They played at a club two blocks from my apartment just after the first album was released. About 2 months after that, I really got into them. Damn, what a missed opportunity!

Nah, as long as there's not another one from 2005, you're cool.

I saw them open for the Rolling Stones at RFK in '89 and that sold me to go out and buy Vivid. Pretty solid album. Gotta love any hard rock band that can cover Talking Heads and make it sound right! Used to turn down the sound at the beginning of "Living Color" (the TV show) and play "What's Your Favourite Colour" instead. Second album didn't do as much for me, and when I never heard anything off the third album, I didn't buy it.

I feel the same as you. Their first album is really good! I bought their second album, I don't like it that much. I don't like much from what I heard from their other albums. They are a one album band to me.
