    Default Eddie Acoustic

I am going to try to start more of a positive thread amist all of this negativity. Has Eddie ever played acoustic guitar live. If so, what songs? Do any of you think that Van Halen with Sammy or Dave could have pulled of an Unplugged back in the day? Remember Aerosmith's was one of the best ever. I am not sure if Eddie's style of playing is condusive to good acoustic stuff. SOUND OFF!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK????

    Josephina.

Wasn't any impressive at all, just strumming along the chords.
But I have a sample of Can't Drive 55 on the Dawn of 5150 and the acoustic part is just plain awesome there. Nothing like Zakk but still very good.

Heard a boot compliments of Sucka over at Guitars101.
Eddie and Sammy doing Right Now & Best of Both Worlds - both stripped down. (acoustic guitar for BOBW / piano for Right Now)
    Just awesome.
No doubt they could have pulled it off and in grand fashion.
The acoustic parts of the "The Full Bug", "Take Your Whiskey Home" are killer. I could totally see Eddie extending those throughout the entire song.
Would love to see the boys dust off Could this be Magic.

Yeah, I agree, I think the boys could have certainly pulled it off quite well. I think when you have someone as talented and Ed, it dosen't matter if he is plugged in or not, the creative genius that comes out of him will shine through! Spanish Fly is a great example of how creative he can be on an acoustic. IMHO the man is simply one of the most talented people around, he could be playing any instrument and make it sound great. BTW, good idea for a thread.

I think Ice Cream Man would sound pretty cool entirely acoustic. I'm not a guitar player, so I don't know if it would translate well, but I would think so.

As far as an entire unplugged.......which songs do you think would work? Maybe Feel Your Love Tonight, You Really Got Me, Little Dreamer, Women in Love, just to name a few from the Roth era.

For some reason, I can't picture many Sammy era songs done acoustically....

Love Walks In was also done acoustically at this show as well. Sounded good.

Eddie's plugged in guitar sound is so recognizable that it is pretty hard to imagine what a lot of the songs would sound like stripped down. I would absolutely love to see what he could make of this as an artist. They are all so talented that it would just be awesome. The songs with key's are obvious, but the songs that have that defined riff are what intrigue me.

    Eddie:
Do an unplugged record w/Roth- no pressure to come up with new material that might get shit on like VH3.
See how that sells, if there's mega interest, do a tour with an unplugged segment. The tour would not be seen as a total cash grab, since they'd kinda be supporting a new album.
If all goes well, this would tide fans over while they come up with a quality album of new material.

    Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Rather than an all acoustic album with Roth or Sam (although any new material is always welcomed), I would rather see what these guys can do with the songs they currently have. Revamp them, slow them down, whatever. I am not the musical genus, they are. The thing to consider is that when one does an acoustic set of any kind the vocals are very exposed. God it would be awesome to see these guys in an intimate setting like they used to do on MTV Unplugged and hear what they can do. Someone give them a call and tell them to do it.

Eddie plays a mean blues guitar (Take Your Whiskey Home, Full Bug, parts of Ballot or Bullet). Ed would kick total ass playing some blues!!

Anyone see the Viva Van Halen Saturday on MTV at the opening of The Cabo Wabo? Ed had an acoustic guitar and they did an awesome version of 'Cabo Wabo'. Just the three (Al was there - didn't contribute much haha) of them harmonizing over Ed's guitar. Sounded Wicked.
