"I used to play the blues alone in all the local joints," he explained. 'The only thing that I can really play on guitar to this day is the blues. I heard Doc Watson and his son playing 15 years ago, and from there I got into Leadbelly and John Lee Hooker."--DLR

I heard about this on the radio this morning. Terrible, I didn't even know he was in the hospital. I picked up A Bothered Mind recently after hearing it at a bud's house, one of my favorite records right now. Too bad I only discovered him in the last couple of months.

I graduated from San Jose State University in 1998 and was a DJ there at KSJS. We had a Blues Festival that we hosted every year and I would run the board for it. R.L. played there one year and TORE THE HOUSE DOWN!! He was definitely a crowd favorite. I hate it when we lose great musicians. So long, R.L.

Damn. I too came about hearing the fellow only recently, through the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (not the best).

    Good luck, R.L.

Here's a cat that John Lee Hooker and Lightnin' Hopkins liked doin' their toons...here's a badass that was taught by Mississippi Fred McDowell...I saw him two nights in a row way back in '98 at a blues juke joint an' he was INCREDIBLE!!!!!! Took a pocketknife out and played some evil, evil blues...kept mutterin' about 'them kinda girls'(hookers)...and drinkin' 'muddy water'(whiskey)...pick up all of his early records if you can...'specially the acoustic records...

One of my favourite quotes by R.L. is,"I just shot him in the head. It was between him and God if he died."
