Default Average home prices in your area

Keeping it very general and non-specific (not asking about the monetary value of YOUR home, but rather the average for your area), what is the median home price in an average neighborhood where you live?

I'm around the Portland Oregon area.

    A 1500 sqr ft, 3 bdrm, 2 bath on a 1/4 acr lot would average around 225k I'd guess.

Using that as your base (I think that's probably average), what's it like in your neck of the woods?

643k Orange County California. And that would be for a not so great 4 bedroom in an older neighborhood or a small town home in a new community. A decent house with no need for renovation here in a good community will go for no less than 750-850k. I can't wait for that Earthquake.....

Remember- A 1500 sqr ft, 3 bdrm, 2 bath on a 1/4 acr lot is being used for this litmus. If that's not what you have (that's not what I have), your best guess based on your knowledge of the area.

Wow! I'm glad I don't live where you guys do. Let's see, Houston is a HUGE city. If you live IN Houston, an average 1500 sq. ft. house (but in Houston the homes are more like 2000-3000 sq. ft. in the city, at least---our townhome is even 1600 sq. ft.) would be around $150K. In the suburbs you could find a house that size for just around $120K (but not new). However, most the homes in the suburbs that are being built are closer to 2800 sq. ft. and cost around $200K. It all depends on the area and convenience to downtown when you're talking Houston.

In Carmel, CA? 1.2 million, makes no difference how big it is. Unless it's near the ocean, the the average price is an automatic 2 million.

    Monterey Peninsula, it's $850K.

For one that size around here in good old Polk Co, Fl that's in good shape $160-175k. That would be without a pool though. With a pool add and $10-15. That's in a good neighborhood. But that's a guess ok. Prices are rising really fast here because of the hurricanes last year. People are begging for housing and are desparate.

In Chicago, it depends on if you are looking Northside burbs or Southside Burbs. That property in the Northern burbs would be $230k+. Southside more like $160k.

Still sounds better than the Pacific coast prices!!

Minus the 1/4 acre lot, you could get a home that was equivalant to that for $775,000-$825,000. That may be for a detached home on a small parcel or even a condo or TIC. IF you could find a home on a 1/4 acre lot in the city (I think you could count them on your hand), they would be in the millions. Yes, that was millions!
