oh...and I wonder if he possibly (due to his generic yet polished sound) would have spread VH to even more mainstream.
I dont know man. That version of him singing Panama in 5150 with the boys that leaked a few years back was godawful.

VH going even MORE mainstream, more like, say, Bon Jovi? Good grief, please no.

As will I, yet it's not all I like.
If it didn't have tapping and horse whinney whammy dives, I wanted no part of it. Hence me being late to appreciate Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc.

I like where I'm at with my music tastes now, versus back then. I was pretty one dimensional.

    Amen.

Still, Little Dreamer, WIL, CTBM, PCTS, Secrets, BBB...CVH always had examples of a softer side, but without without resorting to following obvious current trends of the time or being generic.

Yes, Van Halen has always really been a hybrid of hard rock and pop with exceptional musicianship, which is what separated them from their imitators.

Jeez, that is a horrible song.

    Blecht.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I always feel focussing on the voice is more over rated as song writing to complete Ed's work is so so critical. If just vocal well then go hire Ralph, but it is not. Mitch writes more country music than rock even though his voice fits rock better.

That's kind of what I was getting at; Mitch seems to have a country/grass roots vibe, while obviously still having a rock layer as well. I dig that kind of thing with artists I like and want to listen to.

Very cool you are related, even if not close, and I don't mean that in a bad way at all. I commented on YT about one of his videos (It's the Right Time) and he replied to me. My username starts with "Sam..." which many think is a nod to Hagar. Nope, an inside joke with an old gf about Richie Sambora - a hero of mine. Mitch said "Thanks, Sam..." and I always got the impression..... Well, you know... Haha

VH actually dodged that bullet. He seems like a good dude, but not in any way at all a good fit for VH, even if they had never brought Dave back for the 2 Best Of tunes in 96.
