    That's "Worst Case".

It's smart but confusing. Ironically, if they had planned for "Worst Case" BEFORE OIF we'd be in much better shape now, maybe even done.

Well if they had thought the whole thing out better, they'd have actually not even gone there, and for sure we'd be in better shape now, especially the nearly 2000 dead troops and 15000 wounded.

Not sure if you guys are aware of this, troops tend to stick around for a long time after a war. Take Japan and Germany for example, we have had troops there for about 60 years now, Korea 55 years.

We have had people hanging out in Kuwait since 1991, we also have a bunch of stuff sitting around (tanks, humvees, etc...) in preservation just in case.

We will be "in Iraq" for the next 10 years minimum.

We had stuff pre-positioned in Kuwait because we signed a "Cease Fire" agreement with Iraq, not a peace treaty. The war was essentually put on hold for ten years in hopes that Iraq would clean up it's act. It didn't and we picked up where we left off.

I don't think the Iraqis are going to put up with us for ten years.

And how much has it cost us so far, and how much more will it cost us? Excuse me... How much will our children and their children be paying for this war, including interest?

How much will it cost them if we half-ass it?

Nobody ever wants to pay the price to get things done right the first time, and that's how we end up in bad, compromised positions such as where we are now. A good portion of the American public lacks the will, intelligence, and moral fiber required to meet the commitments that we have made. The reason we continue to finance ourselves with debt is that the politicians are afraid to ask the American public to pay for the commitments that have been made.

Drawing parallels with the end of the Roman empire, Mr Walker warned there were “striking similarities” between America’s current situation and the factors that brought down Rome, including “declining moral values and political civility at home, an over-confident and over-extended military in foreign lands and fiscal irresponsibility by the central government”.
The Rome parallel can be made, and accurately so. But be wary of anyone
who claims "declining moral values" brought down Rome. Not so accurate.

Nice way of trying to pick nits, while absolutely avoiding the substance of what has been said.

BTW, moral values encompasses much more than you likely think it does.
